I'd love to know.....the finish is a real mystery.
But surely it can be recreated...... I mean, anything can......right?

We need to speak to a wheel repairer/refinisher, maybe one of those guys could shed some light on the finish and if its possible to recreate it.

I made an enquiry with a 'wheel restorer' advertising in MCN a few years back......and even he did not have a clue.

Come on - we are the SD pioneers. Always was going to be a tough nut to crack but it lands on our shoulders.
We need a breakthrough on this chaps.

I`ve been having a scout on t`internet, the finish could be brushed aluminium with a clear anodized finish applied.

It's frustrating- I may well just turn them inside out and paint them black. Hang on.....

I think the biggest hurdle with restoring the original finish on a Comstar is going to be the 'spokes' - we cant remove them to get the rest of the wheel finish 'right'. If they can be removed and replaced - safely and properly - then I am sure the finish (on the rim particularly) can be recreated. As Dave says - brushed aluminium. I am sure a wheel refinisher could replicate it.
But the 'spokes' are always going to put a block on doing it.
