Remembered later - the Anglia was a 105E. So what was the 107E? Think it was the 1200cc version. Although in the 70s, my mates stuck Cortina 1500GT engines in them, with wide wheels, Saphire Blue metallic paint & a mat black bonnet! just seen a 107e for sale. www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C436566

You Aussie guys love your big engines, don't you? When I backpacked Australia 1999 into 2000 I bought a bright yellow Holden Commodore Station Wagon.....have pics somewhere will upload them. This thing had been in North Sidney all its life (since 1981) and when we got it out on the open road, it was a bit shocked.....first to go was the radiator. I remember getting laughed at by the wreckers yards a few times as it only had the measily 1.9 (four cylinder) motor...

Pic is my 1976 TD, XLE, ford cortina from 20+ years ago. Ford Australia decided to take your UK mk 3 cortina, and replace the 1.6l & 2l pinto motors with a 200cid (3.3l) and mine, a 250cid (4.1L). The 4.1l cortinas had an impressive lump in the bonnet, to clear the motor. With 150+ hp in a tiny car, it was leathal. So much so that it killed lots of kids. Straight line was insane....... until you had to brake or corner with the 6 cyl lump of cast iron. Corning or decent braking just didnt happen. How did you find OZ? Your yellow ride was the VB / VC holden 6cyl motor, that they literally cut 2 cylinders off, and called it a starfire due to the oil crisis.

I loved Oz, Bendys......could quite easily have stayed there. Loved the people, the climate (in certain parts) and the houses etc. I bought this car from the 'small ads' in Sydney - couldn't find anything any good at the backpackers car markets or advertised in the hostels.....this had a years rego on it when we got it and was perfect for us.
This car took us from Sydney to the Gold Coast to Cairns through Cloncurry, up to Darwin, down through Alice Springs, down to Adelaide and then to Melbourne where I actually sold it for more than I paid for it, after giving it a good wash and wax. I recall it was a Dutch backpacker who bought her off us.
