How did you find OZ? Your yellow ride was the VB / VC holden 6cyl motor, that they literally cut 2 cylinders off, and called it a starfire due to the oil crisis.
I loved Oz, Bendys......could quite easily have stayed there. Loved the people, the climate (in certain parts) and the houses etc. I bought this car from the 'small ads' in Sydney - couldn't find anything any good at the backpackers car markets or advertised in the hostels.....this had a years rego on it when we got it and was perfect for us.
This car took us from Sydney to the Gold Coast to Cairns through Cloncurry, up to Darwin, down through Alice Springs, down to Adelaide and then to Melbourne where I actually sold it for more than I paid for it, after giving it a good wash and wax. I recall it was a Dutch backpacker who bought her off us.
Looks like a Vauxhall Royale estate that I once had (for a very short time until the floor fell out.....)

If I remember rightly, the Royale was an 'upmarket' Carlton, with a bit of extra chrome trim and velour seat coverings. Will see if I cant fins a picture of it - it WAS a bloody long time ago.......... This is similar - except mine was blue: c1.staticflickr.com/5/4018/4663474092_8fc33d16c5_z.jpgAnd I was mistaken......it wasnt an estate car, it was a 'fastback'....and it had plenty of fake wood on the dash too...

Ahaaa...
Never really been a GM fan to be honest......but I have to admit, that car did us well... After replacing the radiator, starter motor, exhaust, alternator and most of its brakes.
That said it was nearly 20 years old when we got it......with around 200kms on the clock!!!! and it was run hard and hot.....

GM were trying to confuse everyone with badge engineering then, so your Royale was a rebadged Opel Monza, the saloon version was the Rekord/Carlton with small engines, or Commodore/Viceroy, with a straight six.
They didn't do a big engined Carlton 'A' estate, although there was a one off Viceroy wagon made for HRH QEII.

Howdy pardners!
I went to log in to the old place and found it had imploded (what happened there?) then found this site and this thread, which is right up my street.
Sadly, the SD is long gone (I think it's found it's way to someone who claims to want to restore it) but I still have a couple of Hondas in the stable, plus a 650 Katana and a Z1100.

Was there not a V8 cortina produced for the aussie market called an XR8 with a a 302 (5Litre) lump in it? Seem to remember it was either australia or south africa. Some crazy kids in Canberra were dropping v8's into the cortinas for the summer nat drags / burn out comps. The XR8 / XR6 is a full size car, 20 years later called Ford falcons.
