If I remember rightly, the Royale was an 'upmarket' Carlton, with a bit of extra chrome trim and velour seat coverings. Will see if I cant fins a picture of it - it WAS a bloody long time ago.......... This is similar - except mine was blue: c1.staticflickr.com/5/4018/4663474092_8fc33d16c5_z.jpgAnd I was mistaken......it wasnt an estate car, it was a 'fastback'....and it had plenty of fake wood on the dash too... Holy shit! It they sold then here, the fast backs would have gone like hot cakes! Just drop a 202 (3.3L 6) or a 308 in it!

Was there not a V8 cortina produced for the aussie market called an XR8 with a a 302 (5Litre) lump in it? Seem to remember it was either australia or south africa. Some crazy kids in Canberra were dropping v8's into the cortinas for the summer nat drags / burn out comps. The XR8 / XR6 is a full size car, 20 years later called Ford falcons. Just had a google, the XR8 I was thinking about was the Sierra. It was a 302 V8 and South African. The Falcon certainly is a "full size" car. A friend has a 70's XB coupe with a 351, it's huge.

Nice Manta.....
I remember a neighbour had a Viva from around 1977 - so maybe it was classed as a mark 2 or something. It was not the earlier squarer looking one but more rounded. It was green and was a two door model.
The speedo in it was a kind of rectangle affair - the needle seemed to start off on the passenger side, then reached the drivers side as speed increased.
I'm exaggerating of course but you get the picture.
