they look like the two bolts that have the rubber sleeves on (on the later models) I had one shear off on my 450 motor, it was a pig to shift, I cut a bit of thread on it, wound a nut on and then abused it with the welder. it still needed a hell of a lot of force with a breaker bar, I cringed all the way but it wound out and left the female thread in tact

I am happy not to have to do that as it is all part of the bit I am chucking away thanks to a previous twit with a grinder. Just one question buster, what is the significance of the rubber bit? If I had replacement bolts wit the rubber missing, would they work? Could that bit be replaced with electrical rubber shrink covering ? Sorry. More than one question.....

its a case of having a look at the base gasket face of your barrels, if they have the little grooves in them (very short, from the cam chain tunnel to the cylinder studs) then its either a case of finding some rubberised bolts (tricky) or having the little grooves welded up.

Yup, it's got the little grooves. So it's safe to weld em up ? Why are they even ther do you think.

I think the idea is to stop those two bolts seizing in, works well as you can see

just a thought, did you get the crank clamping piece with the new top casing. I'm just thinking that they are likely matched

Terry C was kind enough to let me have the pair, so yes I do. I was told I needed a pair even though you see Ebay breakers trying to sell them separately. All I need to do now is understand why cms seem to stock the bearings by letter and the book has them by colour If anyone can tell me how to order a set of brown and a set of green for a 1981 cb250 I would be grateful 🤔👍 Oh, and what is this plasticy bearing checker stuff ?

this decodes cms bearing shells (silvers list them by colour, much less confusing) I think the supersession parts have a better oil feed (not entirely sure but they're the ones I'd go for) plastigauge is the easiest way to measure the clearances between crank and shells. it looks a bit like nylon, all you do is cut a piece the width of the shell, lay it across the bearing shell face and then dry build the crank ie torque it down and then release it again. this squashes the plastigauge and you can use this to check the tolerance. remember to check the con rod shells too before you put an order in otherwise you might end up with two lots of postage to curse about. drop me a pm if want some plastigauge

I thought it was a full gasket set not just top end but would allow most of the engine to go together :-)
