once borrowed a ‘normal’ cx500 for a couple of days, bit of a wierd thing to ride. when you were sat on it at a standstill it felt very top heavy as if you could drop it for fun but on the road it actually felt fine, it had that lovely twin cylinder ‘lope’ and was a really nice bike to plod around on, enough umph for safe overtaking too, I would have bought it at the time but I already had 4 bikes at that time and the one thing I didnt like about the cx was the feel of the shaft drive under hard acceleration, having said that I’m sure you’d get used to it pretty quickly and I should probably ride like less of an idiot. is this one your thinking of buying? much nicer than that gopping yam (sorry carl) victoria

I need to get a bike which is more af an all rounder out here as I occasionally want to pick said son from school. I just admire the great condition that this is in. Very low miles too and built in the classic Honda era. Maybe a later (93 to 03) 750 Nighthawk or even Bonnie remake may be more suitable.

Get a 80’s 750 nighthawk Nick 👍 There’s got to be plenty over there

These are lovely bikes Carl but what puts me off them is the lack of good silencers available these days. That lower silencer on each side seems to be a weak spot near to where it joins the manifold / t piece. I think all the good spare and NOS pipes have found their way to Cannock.

Show me a model that is attractive if you would. Bojer owned one in the past which I thought was a nice looker though, I believe it was an early 2000's Sportster in orange........but that model seems rare here...they like the big ugly stuff. Maybe they send the other stuff to Europe.

While you've still got the beer goggles on, how about going back to a Yam? Gill had this when she lived in Atlanta 30 years ago - must be a classic now First thing she did was ditch the armchair of course What model was it Ian? I do actually like the early Virago and XS650 /750 Specials but it's finding a good one now and there is also the exhaust / silencer supply to consider much like the Honda Nighthawk above.

It was a Special 2 400, basically a custom XS400 I think. She's had a couple of Virago 535s recently and they were ok. The '88 was over 30K miles & we had a few problems with the long HT lead to the rear cylinder & carbs, but the 10K '97 was trouble free & nice to ride. She also had that 250 Rebel you might remember from Wales. She was on a US based forum with that and the 450 version seemed very popular over there. She had the 250 for about 6 years & I never did anything but oil & filters - might be worth considering the 450?

I’m looking for something 650cc plus really. I have a great little Nighthawk 450 which has enough in it for me but for two up I’d like a bit more go.
