call me odd but I'v always rather enjoyed doing valves its probably because I'v always found it a worthwhile job on older engines and usually you can feel the results as soon as you fire it up and go for a ride

and from jobs I like to a job I dont, polishing. I started on this casing but decided it was too far gone (for me) so onto plan b, strip the original nighthawk casing (I knew I'd regret using it as masking when I painted the engine) and I'v finally found some paint that modern nitromors can shift next job will be polishing it up to the same standard as the clutch cover

With you on both counts Buster. Love to see polished ally casings, but too much effort getting there & keeping it like that for me.

most problems you encounter when building a so called special leave you tearing your hair out in frustration, but just occasionally things seem to go right. I just got these inlet manifolds this morning and having offered them up they look as though they will do the job perfectly ie fit a pair of 250rs carbs to a superdream (450) engine, they even match the inlet ports nicely. suzuki tr500 just in case anyone was wondering

about as shiny as I'm prepared to go I was going to polish the rocker cover too, but decided on paint instead (easier to live with)

bits and bats prepped for primer. attack with angle grinder and cup brush, then bead blast the fiddly bits and areas prone to rust (welds) image uploaderthen treated everything with this stuff the instructions are a bit long winded so being a man I decided that I obviously know better and gave everything two coats, I'll look like this if my paint falls off

frame primed with 3 coats and ready for a gentle flatting with 600 paper before top coating if anyones looking for a decent self etch primer then this U-POL is pretty damn good, but ditch the crappy nozzle that it comes with and fit a proper one from a different can.

not much done, just flatted the frame with 600 wet and dry then sugar soaped everything off. ready then for one final coat of primer, then onto top coat if the weather ever picks up

3 top coats of 2k black gloss, the odd jackson pollock moment, but Ill live with that still quite a few little bits and bats to paint for the frame, engine mounts, battery box etc but it does feel like genuine progress also have to add a big thankyou to john (na44 superdream) for pointing me in the direction of some decent paint, cheers

fun and games with the cylinder head. bought the correct tool for extracting exhaust studs three studs came out perfectly and the fourth sheared src="//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/superangry.png"> so after some serious butchering with the angle grinder I managed to get it out and took it to graham at skipton sheet metal to alloy weld it back up for me. he did an excellent job. having had the above disaster I'v been putting off the moment of drilling and tapping for a new stud pleased to say that its all gone well, used an exhaust clamp loosely in place as a guide. all this hassle because I couldnt live with rusty exhaust studs I must be mad
