was it not the comstar wheel which accommodated a tubeless tyre? so I willgo for the cx500 because I can remember my uncles mate coming to the TT in 1978 from germany and my dad raving on to me a 14 year old how great this bike was and it even had tubeless tyres

Not BMW Brian. It was the CX500.My brother had one of the first ones in 1978.
