Btw Nick, I liked your post, NOT the damage! Looks like you were lucky it was limited to the CBR, could have been a major fire.

I don't think Dave would like it if I called the bike he has let me use as a banger I don't think any of them are bangers yet, but where else could I put the pictures on a Superdream forum!

IMO foutfourtwo has well undervalued his cbr1100xx add at least another G Your right Carl, of course it's worth more than 600 quid. To me, at least and anybody else who wants to own a nineties hyper bike, but not according to any official price guide. But the point I was making was really what constitutes a banger. The sales man who 'valued' my bike two years ago almost managed not to snigger as he looked over my (then) 60,000 mile heap of scrap. He couldn't wait to get back inside and sit in his nice warm office working out how much commission he was going to earn selling me a ten grand bike! But he actually made me realise that the bike was worth more to me than a cash value. It does everything I want of a bike, and it owes me absolutely nothing anymore. And I wouldn't feel guilty riding it in any weather, getting it a bit dirty or scratching it. A banger by definition maybe as opposed to value. lets face it, I could break it and get far more than the sum of its parts. It's got nearly a grand in extras on it...

It was ours to, so we were lucky the one we found was in that colour. It's also an early model with 16" rather than 17" wheels, an unexpected bonus for Gill! One of my former-bangers was steadily coming out of the banger zone. But now back to being a banger....after a bang. I suppose some bikes only ever want to be bangers. That is their banging vocation in life. What happened ? Did I miss something?

Fuel pump fire. Never known it before. Vapourised fuel squirted out of the F.P breather and started a nasty fire within 30 secs of the bike starting.
I'll do a full write up on what happened and what I have found out so far if there is enough interest on here for it.

Definitely enough interest Nick it was a unusual event & could of ended up being a "News at ten" item so when you feel ready please share, it will shock a few & may save a life !

This is true, Rich. Let's not forget that we love older bikes here. All it takes on any bike would be a split or perished fuel pipe and you have a situation on your hands - one that develops very quickly when fuel is involved.
It has changed the way I run the bikes - sometimes leaving them unattended for five minutes or so but never again. I swear if I'd have done this (on this occasion) my whole garage would have burned to the ground.
I'll start a new thread entitled 'the fire'. Keep it simple.

That said, the issue was not down to the bike being 'old' on this occasion - but a known fault. Therefore what I wrote above is partly irrelevant - it applies to all bikes, not just older ones.

Guide price £900 to £1200 (buy it now probably an unrealistic £1500).....yes I know it's a Yamaha - but check out those miles - chatted with the seller today and the story and MOT history checks out. This could serve someone very well. Someone get this bought.....please.....before I do. It is currently gracing fleabay.

Bit exotic for me, Boje.
Getting this back to factory would finish me - mentally and financially.

Possibly due to my ignorance but I've pondered if bikes like the GPz would be easier to restore than the SD , wheels could be restored straightfowardly not like the Comstars finish , black engine cases not the brushed/polished/lacquered cases that are hard to replicate and again prob. mean NOS , even the paint is a solid colour? Go on , you love nostalgic challenge
