It’s not too bad previous owner had tried to fit an aftermarket alarm, cut into the loom found out that all the alarm cables were black cut some off got confused and couldn’t put it back together. I did sort the wiring and got the bike running but the engine management light come on. Diagnostics wouldn’t connect to the laptop, so decided a replacement loom was the best solution.Time consuming but logical plug ins make life easier.

Remember my £408 ebay banger? 2017-11-03_10-54-50 by Adrian Lee, on Flickr It now looks like this: 500 vf by Adrian Lee, on Flickr 500 vf by Adrian Lee, on Flickr My daughter rides the bike and wanted to learn how they come part, how they work and how they go back together. The bike is very sound but the frame needed painting, so we`ll check everything out and replace as needs be during the rebuild, will be slow as she works every other weekend. I decided against stripping the SD down as it doesn`t need it and is original under the tank and panels.

Its been an interesting revelation how cheap clean bikes are now in the uk......a lot you guys have a keen eye for bargains. That said i guess a lot of what appear to be newer models in my eyes are actual getting on....i feel a bit like ive been left behind in time lol Speaking of old bangers...my winter rider, is a 1975 honda atc90 and it is plated/ registered to run on grid roads so it is road legal in certain areas etc . Its great for taking my border collie on long hikes, he never seems to get tired unlike me. And as a bonus i always yearned for one of these as a kid, so i always feel about 10 years old again on it....plus it was made the same year i was too. Anyhow i paid the equivalent of £400 for it. It is all original and i bought it from from the orignal family owner from new. I can never understand some people, the grandad bought it to travel the fields mending fences etc, the lads mother rode it from being 8 years old and the son rode it too as a kid. I thought that counts as an hierloom in my books but no he wanted the dosh to spend on crap in my eyes. I think his mother was very sad to see it go and pleased i was to take care lf it..... i think it looks a bit of cutie but looks can be deceiving, you could easily get cocky with it and then break you neck on it...as it does have a bit of a bite..!

Looks very original , a farmer friend has a 250 version - I found it not as easy to ride as you'd expect , runs over and trailing feet , doesnt' like to turn sharply on concrete due to solid axle and certainly doesn't respond to a bit of lean to steer - that nearly got in intoa hedge at "high" speed !

What counts as a banger depends on your circumstances. seven years ago I bid for and won what was once the flagship bike of the Honda range, the cbr1100xx or super blackbird. The winning bid was a mere £1651.00. If Honda made these today they would command a price tag around the 18 to 20k mark at a guess. At the time of purchase it could have fetched around 2400 pounds but the bloke selling took it as a part ex and just wanted rid of it quickly. In his eyes....a banger. In my eyes at the time it was my dream bike and all I could afford. Today it's still sat in my garage some seven years and 20,000 miles later. It's not worth a lot, I was offered 600 quid to trade it in two years ago. I'd happily ride it anywhere on any day of the year. It's fast, comfortable, still in great condition for its age, and it has the potential to make me grin like an idiot every time I crack open the throttle and hear the induction roar through the Airbox. I rode it to Germany and back this year without a hitch apart from my chain stretching a little. It passes MOT after MOT. Truly a banger, but it's MY banger and I love it like an old friend. She's mine for keeps now. If I do ever get another bike (besides her little stablemate the SD) then Big Red will still find a place in my garage. She's earned that much. maybe a little off thread.....but if it was sold today, it would fit the criteria. ps, Never owned a 'bird'?? One of the best kept secrets you could possibly buy for the money today. I give you the £600.00 banger.

I have to say that the GPZ looks good in that colour scheme. Like it.

It was ours to, so we were lucky the one we found was in that colour. It's also an early model with 16" rather than 17" wheels, an unexpected bonus for Gill!

One of my former-bangers was steadily coming out of the banger zone. But now back to being a banger....after a bang. I suppose some bikes only ever want to be bangers. That is their banging vocation in life.

I don't think Dave would like it if I called the bike he has let me use as a banger
