After years of riding a 650 Honda shafty and running out of room for it I sadly gave it away recently but within a week my dear wife bought me a new project... yep you guessed it, a (79) V reg 250 Superdream. As it was stood-up in the last owners mothers shed since 1980 it is "rusty" but the amazing thing is that it is untouched by amateur spanners so is a very interesting proposition. I should also say that there is only 2815 miles on the clock. This is my 1st Superdream as I could no afford the bike in its day (that dates me), all I could afford was a D1 Bantam. It is my aim to get it serviceable (nothing more), ride it, and enjoy it.

It is one of my dreams (pardon the pun) for my wife to buy me a project motorbike - it is in fact one of my ultimate fantasies......but sadly (like most fantasies) it will never happen....sounds like you have a good 'en there - hold on to her. Welcome to the site wealdenrust.

Thanks for the welcome. I shall get a photo or two and upload them soon. The project is waiting for a baffle box repair and a new pair of silencers (the originals have rotted away) to get me off and running. the rest is unknown yet except that the engine is a runner.

Sorry, I forgot to mention in reply that yes my wife is a diamond who I'm probably lucky to still have after 25 years married. Gulp!

Looks like I shall have to get the camera out this weekend to put you out of your misery. I will say that rusty low mileage but promising is how I view the wee silver blue striped beauty. Thanks for your interest it does make me happier that I'm not alone in a cold garage with a heap of ferrous oxide and a runny nose.

I'm toying with an idea of starting a thread for this project but being a novice to forums is this a good or bad idea?

I haven't managed to start a thread yet for my SD project, but have had a few 'build threads' on other forums. You will find forum members will give you advice at each stage of your project, and with some members having a wealth of experience that kind of advice is invaluable. They're a great way to document your progress, as you can look back at what you have achieved. And you'll get plenty of encouragement if you ever hit a wall or lose motivation.
A project thread from start to finish is also invaluable for other new members who will inevitably face the same pitfalls and obstacles that you will have to overcome, so the information and experiences that you include in your thread will serve as a reference for future Superdream restorers! (Which includes me!)

Great, thoughtful and helpful advice. I shall try. Should it be a new thread, as it's a new way of thinking or continue on this thread?
