I have spent a very interesting day at the manufacturers with a selection of bike parts and a challenge to them to show the capabilities of their system. I learned a lot, not least some of the misconceptions about how vapour blasting works and what it can and can not do. All the parts I took down were the worst I have- almost considered scrap. Check out the fork leg which we masked off with gaffer tape to show the difference. Well it's ordered be here in 2 weeks- everything that doesn't move is gonna get blasted....

the top end of it looks like a van with the wiper showing,
love the results though.

Does the head cover look a little scarred?

when are you open for business? I`ll have some bits off the 250 that would benefit from a blasting.

Does the head cover look a little scarred? i had my rocker cover aqua blasted nick, it got most of the crud and old laquer off and made it easier to polish it up. i reckon it would bring the crankcases up a treat.

it looks a good finish on the fork and the hanger Paul. We've just come back from Cornwall Dave, so I literally dashed into work last night and grabbed some skanky parts. I never had time to do some "before" photos, so because the results are so impressive and you forget how the part looked before it went in- I made them mask off the fork leg so I could see the actual before and after. And the forkleg is a good example of the usual lacquer bloom we see on the old parts. Outstanding difference.....

Does the head cover look a little scarred? What you see is water marks and fingerprints- you really need to polish or at least ACF50 the bits straight after as they are easily marked. Also there is still crud down in the fins which would need a bit more attention- we never completed it. Steel parts flash rust immediately, which was the other process we ran through and came up with a solution....

I have faith in your abilities to get this back to virtually original Paul.......I know you would not settle for anything less.

it`s hard to tell on pictures but that fork slider looks an excellent job ,that old lacquer can take some shifting. put me on your waiting list when you get set up, I`ll have some work for you when I start on the tc.

The system will have to realise a return on the investment, so I will be touting for business here don't worry! This is actually only Phase 1 as to do the job properly even ally parts need to be first dry blasted to remove imperfections and corrosion and then wet blasted. Most of the sites you see that offer the service only have a wet blaster- they chuck a bit of aluminium oxide in with the beads to do both jobs. To get a better finish the 2 processes need to be separate. As I said- an educational day!

The finishes look too 'matt'............but I am assuming they can be polished up (not too much) to obtain a near original look?

Yers- think of it as "peened" and then you take it as shiny as you like. I'll buff it up tomorrow and see what it takes.....

Just take time to look at that R/H fork bottom on YHV 961T....that is the kind of finish that needs to be aimed for Paul (assuming that the original look is your desire).
