Only had time to give the kickplate a quick polish today. 5 minutes with a cloth and Autosol on the main triangular area and it got very, very shiney. I'm liking this- this piece I considered scrap.....

Vapour blasting been around for years, one of first jobs I did as a 16 year old apprentice 46 years ago.Recall having to bung a rust inhibitor in the cabinet and anything blasted especialy aluminium came out looking great but "sticky" and easily stained with fingerprints etc. Is this still the case?parts always polished up nicely after blasting.

Really cool piece of kit...very very jealous You could sell shares in the kit like they do for planes. That way you would not have to spend hours in your garage trying to make it pay.. This system, could be used to purchase other bits of interesting kit. If you used the plane scheme, its all legal and the legal ground work has been done.. Aircraft sharing agreement: three or more owners www.netlawman.co.uk/d/aircraft-sharing-agreementjust using the above as an example. You can download the paperwork for free. Its simple and it works in court. I've never seen any pitfalls.

What will probably happen is a vapour blasting service to run alongside my own requirements. Look out for a forum discount!

The cabinet looks just like the one I used all those years ago,a company called Abrasive Developments based in Henley in Arden made them, believe they are no longer trading wonder if one you have is based on them?

Just had peek on their website see they're near me in Northampton, tried to get my brother and his mate interested in vapour blasting/grit blasting/polishing etc. But they're not keen, they have spare workshop area I can use but no funds to do it myself, wheel refurbing etc. would be a good thing to do

For reasons I won't go into here- this blast cabinet has actually evolved from that supplied for years by Vixen Surface Treatments up in Stockton-on-Tees. I've seen a demo of their equipment as well. I wasn't aware vapour blasting was around more than about 15-20 years ago TBH, but I am learning all the time! I was told the process originated from the aerospace industry in the USA- mainly because it involves absolutely no material removal (unlike normal dry-blasting), so tolerances on parts stay unchanged. Installed the water supply yesterday- on with electrics today and will do the air side on Friday. Like waiting for a new toy!

The "wet blast" process was developed in Birmingham UK in 1940s,Abrasive Developments went bust in 1999.When I was an apprentice In 1969 was vapour blasting Stellite rings after they'd been in a deep freezer 24hrs to stress relieve before they were ground, the rings were seals that went on track of a Chieftain tank
