Ran like a watch during the viewing. None of us mentioned the cosmetics......not the bike I saw in the pictures....so who's was it? Was a bit awkward to be fair. Quite frankly 'library pics' are an effing joke.

Make a great, reliable workhorse if once you've sorted the paintwork (can't see you living with that colour scheme! )

I was taking the p*ss Ian sorry mate.....was in a silly mood last night - this is not the bike I am interested in at all, it is indeed the one I uploaded last week in black with fairing, registered Sep 1994.
I am viewing it down south next Weds.....the guy is in the army and only has limited days off to show me it.....will certainly report back. I'd like this bike as a workhorse, I reckon at 650 to 700 it could give me many years service.

Viewed the GS500E at approximately 2:10pm GMT today.....and to my surprise it was situated at the vendor's gaff in Reading (not Hampshire as indicated by Gumtree), just 10 mins from my folks.......so I popped in to see 'em for an hour and got the usual banter from my old fella before taking a look. I've bitten the bullet and left a deposit. R/H fork seal needs some looking at. Quick question, can these bikes be jacked up at home in the garage without the headers getting in the way? It's something I stupidly forgot to check...

Yes Nick, you can get a Jack between the headers no problem.
Dave....

Sweet thanks Dave. The stanchions are a bit pitted in the area of travel so might replace 'em whilst the forks are off.

I took it for a ride around the guys road last week and it sounded really sweet and rode well (which you'd expect for 1700 mile machine) - for some reason I have always liked the sound of these bikes - kind of a deep but smooth rumble.
Will keep you posted, cheers Dave.

Yes I like the exhaust note as well, they sound nice when you spin them up to the red line , but the burble when you shut off does it for me.;D ;D

("GS is "sort of" the SD's spiritual successor") Err nope...never in a million years matie.. Superdream's spiritual successor is a difficult one. The superdream would be very expensive to manufacture these days, due to the finish.
A GS on the other hand,is as dull as ditch water and rusts at the drop of a hat..
Its a very reliable chinise bike in my book. But saying that,If its cheap I would have one for plodding to work and back.. As I like two wheels lots... The only reason I would be talking the "GS" up, is if I was going to sell one lol... Always like the GPz... But for me the 500 bracket goes to Honda all day long..If you did not care about weight then its the CX500 Its got a shaft(no poxy chain)good on fuel. But for me its the CB500 all day long. I like the CBF500 aswell. Twins are cheaper to run. Cheaper to repair and service. Thats what a bike should be. cheap to run, fun to ride, reliable, Not too heavy. Not too powerfull Good on fuel. The older you get you start to realise that, its not how fast you can control the bike. But the speed at which motorist around can cope. Because when they can't cope you tend to end up in trouble.
