I agree with Steve, especially if you're going to use it in all when the weather isn't so good. Dave... Not all weather but fair weather and parking it up where and when etc......I think it is a lot less nickable than a classic SD these days. My kids really want to come out with me on the back. This should be up to the job.

It'll be up to it Nick, I was surprised how well they go when I first got mine, I don't know if the speedo is right on mine but I regularly pop over the ton on it.;D

As far as I remember the later version with the oil cooler from about 2004 onwards could be purchased with a fairing as standard and was called the GS500F and it cost a bit more. While the GS500E continued on up until the end of production which I think was around 2008 with no fairing. After they stopped being sold in the UK & Ireland they were still available somewhere else maybe US, Australia or Japan. There is a great website on them somewhere.

I know photos can be deceptive, but that looks really nice, Nick, a bargain! I share your feeling on fairings - I've got a loft full I've taken off, including the one off my CB500 - I just got a headlight & bracket off ebay. Saves a bit of weight too. I like Dave's screen though; would like one for my 500. I did have one once, on an ER5, but I junked that too, unfortunately not in the loft..

Maybe a bit of an od question, but do yous think it would take much effort to fit a pair of rear shocks to the GS500 as a mod ?

Another question would it take much effort to fit a GS500 engine into a CB400 Superfour frame, that would be combining an air cooled quality twin engine with a good looking Honda quality frame ?
