So, just putting new throttle cables on. Bit fiddly and still can’t see why a bike needs a return one as the spring seems strong enough to do the job. The cable seems superfluous. Anyway, as I’m finishing off, this part that the soldered end goes into snapped. 😭😭. I’ve just stopped crying and have a spare set of carbs I now have to clean, swap all the new parts from the carbs on the bike then start again and fit to the bike. Then, do the bloody cables again. any thoughts or shortcuts or wisdom appreciated. 😀👍

Yes I know from my experience these can be really awkward to get in
I eventually found a sequence of installation that made it easier and I'm trying for the life of me to remember what it was! I think I had the pull and push cables fitted in first into carbs and then into throttle grip with plenty of play on pull cable adjustment. But it could have been the other way around! There's no adjustment for the push cable and it's a tight fit...well was in mine. I may be wrong, so maybe someone else has some experience on it.

If memory serves me right, its push and pull with a screwdriver and long nose pliers at hand...or two people, one at either end.
I have done them myself, just takes longer.
Deep breathes.
Gee.

Never come across that part breaking before, good job you had a spare set. I've left the push cables off all my SDs, not so much to make fitting the cables easier but to make the throttle return stronger.

Ian, thanks for the reply. It’s the push one that’s snapped. That’s why I mentioned that I’m not even sure what the cable does as the return spring is so strong. I’ve had bikes where the throttle was stiff and I just twisted it back after accelerating. I’m tempted to leave the carbs in place with the broken lug and just tie the cable up. Any thoughts? You had any issues with it not being on mate?

I know its not ideal, but I usually lube my cables over winter but I do this when servicing the bike. I like to take the carbs off and check the condition of the float bowls so do the cables at the same time.It is alot easier with the carbs off, maybe give this a go when fitting the new bits on?

Yes mate good call. Going to be my winter job. (Next winter) Still got plenty of time this winter! It wont take too long, your only issue is abit of fighting match getting the carbs back in the rubbers.

A warm air gun on the air box rubbers and pull on full choke to get the lever out of the way, works wonders.

The choke is a brilliant piece of info thanks. Just checked the cables I have against the old ones and they are both about an inch too long! Hence the pull jumping off its cog all the time. Call to Wemoto on the way 🤔

Call to Wemoto on the way 🤔 Bazzer, I also had same issue with throttle cable from Wemoto. They could not get the right one, so found one on ebay to original part number. See thread from last year. Should explain if you read to end of discussion with Martin. honda-superdream.co.uk/thread/14832/throttle-cables?page=2
