Well if you change your mind about clip-ons/sportsbikes Dave, you could always put them on upside down

Looks good - although my back hurts just looking at those clip-ons I agree, I dont think it will be very comfortable.

My plug tester from China arrived today. Had to lash up an adaptor for the 2 pin plug & search out one of those ferrule things that screw on the end of some spark plugs Works fine Now will it turn out to be a useful addition to my tool kit, or another piece of junk I never use cluttering up the garage?

During the annual service of my 97 Bandit 600 I decided to change both the fork oil and the brake fluid, they are both over 20 years old. I had a new top end o ring and bottom bolt seal ready so took off the wheel and tried to loosen the retaining bolt to drain the oil. Loosened but would not come out on either fork, bugger, now committed so ended up with this- Even putting ratchet straps, clamps and anything else I could think of to compress the straps didn't work so had to strip the whole front end off to eventually get bolt bolts and seals out. Now, as I have them both out and almost completely stripped down I am thinking I may as well change the fork seals and dust covers (original 20 odd year old but not leaking) and I may upgrade the springs and sort out the flaky alloy sliders. So for a job that should have taken an hour and abou£2 worth of seals it looks like at least £150 and a couple of days Maybe even more if I end up buying a new rear shock to match, cos I am already doing it anyway and may as well. sometimes I am more own worst enemy

Ordered new from springs and rear shock from Hagon today and already have news fork and dust seals on their way so a £2/30min job has morphed into a £500/month job. Now considering whether to refinish the sliders and fork tubes, that may be going too far but it will depend on cost/time.

You're probably right there Mark, lost count of how many lumps of 'unused junk' I've thrown out only to find 'I need one of those' shortly after

I serviced the YBR125 today. I've done most of the jobs last year when we got it, apart from the oil screen (no filter on these) & valve clearances as they had recently been done. There's not much else, no balance chain, auto cam chain adjustment just the foam air filter to clean & oil and the usual checks on steering, wheel & swing arm bearings. The screen should be ok for a bit longer, but this time I thought I'd have a look at the valve clearances as well. Couldn't get the caps off - they're 24mm & the biggest ring spanner I have is 23mm. There's not enough room to get a socket on them. Tried an adjustable, but no way that would shift them. There's nothing in my SD toolkits, but what about the Ninja? Next question, where is the toolkit on the Ninja? Soon found it under the seat, complete with a 24mm ring, and an extension tube. Still not enough leverage though, so added a big screwdriver & finally got them off Easy enough after that, reminded me of doing the job on my CB250G5 40 years ago A squirt of VHT silver on the caps & that's it done. . Removing the Ninja's cover to get the toolkit reminded me there's a hair line crack in one of the seat panels. Think this must have happened when a roll bag was strapped on the pillion seat when we were away on the bikes in 2019. It's a very fine crack - took me ages to find it again - but I think my next job is to remove it & stick a bit of fibreglass behind it before it gets worse

Hello Ian get the smallest drill you can and put a hole at the end of the crack it will stop it getting bigger

You trying to get me killed Mark? If I go near her bike with a drill I'm dead . With that in mind, I took some notes of what screws went where before I removed the panel and off it came The crack was near one of the mounting lugs, so I epoxied a few layers of glass mat on the back to strengthen it. All back together now Don't know if we'll ever get the chance to go away on the bikes again, but if we do, I'd better find a different way of strapping the roll bag on
