I spent a few hours today cleaning the bike & while I was buffing the polish off the tank i spotted a big problem, dreaded rot really cheesed off as the tank looks great & I spent a load of cash on it getting it sprayed & lined so looks like I'm going to have to drain it & get this bit sorted, I touched the paint where the damage is & has a petrol smell so although it's not leaking yet it is only a matter of time so I will try to get it sorted in the next few weeks

Similar thing happened to my 400NA tank just weeks after I'd had it painted. In my case, the paint worked better than the Por15 sealer - the paint bubbled up but kept the petrol in the tank. I slit the softened paint & poured araldite behind the bubble, then pushed the paint back down onto the araldite - looks like this now- That was over 2 years ago & the tank has had petrol in it ever since, but the leak hasn't returned. I'm going to have a go at a proper permanent fix soon, but the problem is that sealer - soldering the tank will melt it. I think I'll have a go at removing it, there seems to be various potions available. I'm resigned to ruining the paintwork in the process honda-superdream.co.uk/thread/6655/petrol-tank-woes

These tanks are just so unpredictable, your tank does look lovely.
I had a problem with a black tank last year, which I considered to be mechanically sound, same position but on the left, the paint bubbled, drained the tank and removed it from the bike. It turned out to be a 12mm vertical fracture, rather than a corrosion problem, which was a new one on me!

same problem here - notice some bubbling, so I took it for stripping and repainting which is when the it was discovered that the previous owner bodged it with filler, which of course doesn't last and eventually the petrol comes through the filler. Ended up with a new tank, which is being finished off as we speak. Expensive in the end, but that's classic biking for you.

Silver tanks do not stand a chance of rotting because: 1) it is not normal horrible ethanol soaked dish water found in the tank......rather it is kerosene (jet fuel), typically the naphtha kind. 2) Most of the time the fuel is pinned against the very back wall of the tank, not the bottom (when in flight).

The paint shop gave me some 200 grade wet and dry to take the gloss off before fitting the decals π±π±π± pix host
