yes i thought it had a brassy look but also thought it could be a trick of the light, the braze hasnt flowed properly but i think the leak is on the side above or on the bend to cause the paint to bubble there. brazing is too agresive for sheet metal because of distortion, blowing air through the tank while soldering will make it safe while soldering.

So if I clean this up & solder around the edges of the previous repair is there a chance of "BOOM !" the tank is empty of petrol but there is petrol vapour in there, would the heat of the solder be enough to ignite the vapour ?

I had a spare tank sprayed up for my 400NA a few years ago......so how can I best protect it now whilst it's idle? Spray WD40 inside it whilst it dry storage? Any recommendations?

I have just spent 2 and a half hours cleaning out an old vf tank, left it with coke in for 24 hours, then rinsfed out with boiling soapy water, 5 flushes with clean water with nuts and bolts, 10 mins shaking the tank each time. Took and age to ge5 the tank dry inside using kitchen roll and hot air. Now here is the risk I then put about half a litre of engin3 oil in an£ gave a good shake and rotation, I intend to put some diesel in it tomorrow, what a cocktail. 😝

I'd use ACF50 rather than WD, it's more 'clingy' than WD, and it's unbeatable at preventing rust. I wiped some on some exterior metal hooks on the shed door at the end of summer & they've stayed rust free over the winter - they usually rust away by now. I also used some in my 400NA spare tank, which has been in storage a couple of years now & is still clean inside. Maybe add a bit of oil as well, like Carl & swish it about from time to time
