Ones used the other is shiny clean should it look like something in between, as you're talking about over restoring. On my bike it would'nt matter as the shiny one would soon look like the other one anyway

Ones used the other is shiny clean Wrong Terry......both new rods - one is a dealer take off but still in NOS condition. The rod is still wearing the plating it left the factory with.

One is titanium the other is a genuine Honda (plated) one. Which do you like the look of best?

The titanium one obviously, would'nt that be classed as an upgrade rather than over restored though

The titanium one obviously, would'nt that be classed as an upgrade rather than over restored though Maybe...as I said it's just a discussion. But my point is, do we sometimes recall these bikes as more 'glitzier' than they actually were? Don't get me wrong the look and finish of them was of course superior - and in my (humble) opinion Honda quality was the best of the big four for many years.

well yes we do and then we see something like a customised chopper and we think ooh that'll look nice on mine so that bike gets overdone and then the next one gets more overdone and bit by bit we get further away from the original. Is the rod above in fact the thin edge of the wedge ?

The one on the right looks like stainless. It's a half-mill or so thicker in diameter. Might not be factory-original but looks fine to me.

Depends very much on the application. Shiny's obviously more attractive to a magpie like me, but for a resto project then the goal is to reproduce factory-finish so the genuine part is more desirable.
