Has anyone ever chopped one of these open or got pics of a butchered one? I'd be interested to see the internals. Good minds think alike and fools seldom differ,
It's easier to throw the first stone....then to hump a camel through an eye of an needle....

DONT..whatever you do.....hit the gaskets with ANYTHING to get the buggers onto the pipes or into the collector box.
They are very soft and will disintegrate instantly.
Just press them onto the ends of the downpipes and silencers with your fingers / palms of your hands. Use a little oil on the inside of them to help.

Yes when I first looked at them I thought they were metal but they must be some kind of compressable material, definitely some form of graphite.Mike

I have heard of guys using fire cement (the stuff people use around flue pipes on stoves) or high temperature silicon as sealant, also Gungum, would this be an option or a no-no on the collector box junction an a SD ?

Some nice quality exhaust gaskets and some copper slip and a nice tighten up will ensure a good job.

Stainless Steel Collector Boxes I have only seen referred to in a review article as available and necessary to replace the mild steel originals. Wonder where they all went?....

Can't make downpipe , except by welding pieces of angled tube. I can reverse engineer basic collector boxes, but not the internals, unless someone can donate a rotten one , so that I can see the internals?

I wish you'd have asked 2 weeks ago. I skipped a rotten one recently.
