After looking for a while ive picked up a 400 superdream today , after missing my old one im going to keep this one for while It needs a bit of work and generally tidying up but its all there and it seems ok Is this an original colour ? It has been painted in the past and needs doing again as the top of the tank is terrible

It looks like whoever painted it has tried to replicate candy Bourgogne Red which was an original colour in the UK offered alongside the only other option on the 400NB which was black.
The original used a silver base coat. It may be the pictures - but the colour looks lighter than standard.

It could possibly be the original paint then as there is a speckled silver effect coming through the top of the tank where the paint has gone thin Its a Y reg 1982 , what model does this make it ? is it a 400nb Also which seat should it have does anyone have any pics of the correct seat cover?

Yes 1982 - very likely to be 400NB - confirmed 100% if frame number begins 22*****.
I was going to link you to the forum's model identifier that I worked so tirelessly on in the past to answer all your other questions. But having just looked at it for the first time in a few months, I've realised it currently resembles an abortion.
Sometimes my blood really does boil of late. I need to log off and come back another time. Well done on the purchase anyway.

P.S - In the meantime feast your eyes on a CB400N-C which is in the same red and has the genuine seat on it you asked about.. Beautiful, ain't it?
