Last attempt.. Google reckons the motor's from a Velocette Viceroy. Apparently they supplied 165 units to Hoverair ltd.

Big fan of Velocette's they were a very innovative company, the Viceroy was a horrendous looking thing as were all British or German scooters maybe more practical than Lambrettas or Vespas but well they weren't very pretty were they lol.

Your turn to ask a question now

OK Dave, but I doubt it'll get as much head scratching as your question. I stumbled upon this one while looking for hovercraft engines. When AMC were designing the OHC P10 engine, a reed valve was proposed as a crankcase breather. Why was this idea rejected? (A) Too expensive to modify the crankcases. (B) Yamaha had the design rights to reed valve technology. (C) Oil leaked past filling the primary chain case. (D) It made a noise like a fart.

How about a Swallow Gadabout? I threw a leg over one of these a couple of years ago, not pretty but fantastic fun.

I'm an ex XS650 owner and I believe they had a reed valve crankcase breather so I'll opt for B as my answer.(Although having read a bit about the past running of the British bike industry I wouldn't discount D lol

I'll wait before revealing in case anyone else wants to take a punt, but sorry it's not B.

AMC twins always tend to leak oil into the primary, so C is plausible. My punt.

We have a winner! Answer: (D) When the bike was presented to the directors for approval, on starting, the reed valve made a noise like a fart, causing much embarrassment. Fell over this odd fact yesterday and it just made me smile.
