I paid £995 for a new 550 four in 1977 and there wasn't a massive difference in cost for a 250 from memory so with inflation which was high then I will guess £1049

Probably was in a way - I think by this time a lot of folk knew what was coming re:law change.
The deluxe model was designed to 'sex up' the interest for the UK market - 250NB's were being offered very cheaply too IIRC.
