Cracking little bikes carbs are abit picky and the collectors rot out and its a bitch to change them this ones been in my family for a long time and im the proud rider but the other half has her name on the docs. took it from a rough every day rider to this sadly shes starting to look abit tatty again not been riden for a while and has a date with some carb cleaner.

I have been pretty intimate with this bike i know most of its issues and short falls. and in keeping with me sacrilegious ways that spread from this to the bobber build i may have got the last NOS headlight faring in the colours the one you after is and rubbed it down and sprayed it. im sorry.

Hey Gissmo - no worries. I have a paint guy in Redditch who can work wonders. My faith in him is amazing. And yeah, I know of the shortfalls that you mentioned with the collector. It's an engine out job, isn't it?

Yeah and to get the engine out is basically a full strip down, luckily now you can get good stainless steel replacements when i did this one i had to have them custom made by a guy in Yorkshire in his shed its stunning but was a pain to find him no as easy as going to David silvers and adding it to the cart now. but the sound of it never fails to put a smile on my face.

With these new pattern DS collectors.....does this mean that the engine does not have to be dropped then?

I believe because they use a split design on the rear headers and they are the issue with the standard Honda collector boxes being one piece, that it can be done without an engine drop, from what I've read and heard it's not a "easy" job but it can be done with the engine in place, if you have the patience. It wasn't an issue for me as I did a full strip down and had everything powder coated so the engine was already out.
