Hi everyone.
I have just recently acquired a complete wreck of a CB250N for £170, which I had hoped to get running and use as a commuter around the busy Bristol streets, but the more I go near it the more I have to add items to the list of work that needs doing, or parts that need replacing. Here it is in all it's dilapidated glory...
It is missing the side panels, rear cowl, headlight and rear brake carrier and rear tyre. The rear wheel and seat are not in the picture above because I've taken them to my little workshop to inspect them, but here's what I'm dealing with.
What little I know is that the seat pan is completely rotten. The brake drum's insides are rustier than the titanic. The battery is dead, but the engine has compression and was 'apparently' rebuilt a couple of years earlier. The exhaust on it is a Motad, but there is also a Micron one that came with it. The front caliper is completely seized. The speedo cable had rotted through. It came with a Rickmans full fairing, which is shabby but relatively solid.
I guess the white plastic front mudguard must've found it's way on the bike at the same time as the fairing and the rear chrome rack. Not sure if the wheels or tank are original to the bike. The tank looks pretty clean inside.
I quite like the look of the Superdream and, on the drive to pick it up, I was really looking forward to getting it up and running but that quickly changed by the journey home. Now I'm beginning to feel like I either sell off the parts that aren't scrap or put it up for sale for someone who could use a donor bike for a project they have.
My first task is to see if I can get the engine firing, but first I will have to sort out the lack of battery. I connected a battery pack to the battery cables and switched the electrics on, but there was no sign of life at all. I've downloaded a wiring diagram, and will get the multimeter out and go from the battery, solenoid, fusebox, regulator and ignition switch to see what's happening.
I'd be very interested to know what you all think. Have I bitten off too much? Is this too far gone?
Cheers,
Scott.
