Used to like the convenience of hermes with drop-off/collection points at various places (my local bp garage) but agree their service can be pants. Noticed recently DPD are now doing the same, local halfords I think? I get stuff couriered to me for work with DPD and they've been faultless.

UPS now have a couple of collection/drop off locations near me, which is useful as cmsnl use UPS and for some reason parcels seem to keep arriving from them.

I always go out of my way to avoid using UK fail Mail.......too many bad experiences including one that had my young lad in tears on his birthday a few years back.......but never really had any issues with my Herpes. Me too. I was driving with the Mrs and my 18 month old son about 6 months ago when the ****** driver of a UK mail artic cut us up. I beeped only receive a load of abuse! Took the reg and wrote down what happened but after basically being told to go away by various reps of the company, I gave up trying to get an apology.

I just had a delivery from DPD as well.......delivery driver had to sit on the drive and wait four minutes before he could deliver it otherwise it would 'fail service' due to being outside the delivery hour window.
This part of the ETA system I find a bit ridiculous - there should be an early deliver override if someone is in and waiting so that the driver does not have to waste his time or other's time.

I seen these drivers sit outside people's houses & wondered why & was told by one of my customers this 5 min thing - seems like something needs tweaking my boss would go crazy if I had to wait 5 mins between drops

Is that why our postie stick a card through the letter box to collect at post office without even knocking more often than not?

Is that why our postie stick a card through the letter box to collect at post office without even knocking more often than not? Hey Dave on behalf of the Royal Mail I would like to apologise to any poor folk this has happened to I know how annoying it is, but first I can tell you there are a lot of people who complain to customer service department when we have done our job correctly & they sometimes say we never knocked. for me there is no reason to leave card without knocking I know my customers very well & they are mostly fantastic people, I treat them all as well as I can & know where to leave parcels etc without leaving a card, but sometimes things do go wrong. I had one customer try to get me in trouble, I knocked & rang doorbell, no answer so I left a card, 20 mins later he found me a few miles away ranting & raving saying I left card without knocking, he rang my boss & tried to get me in trouble I had to see the boss next day & I assured him I did make a good attempt to deliver, they rang the guy back (he was a doctor) & he admitted he was in the back garden sunbathing at time of delivery, so his complaint was ignored thankfully but there are a lot of people who try & get us in trouble, luckily I'm on same delivery now & im used to all my customers & they are used to me so all good & I've even forgiven the guy who tried to drop me in it, he has retired now & is not quite so much of a professional prat. i don't know about your posties up north but in my office we are mostly a good hard working bunch

We have had some good ones Rich, but this last year it seems we have a different one every few weeks, you don't get chance to get to know them before they're gone. We had a lady that was on our round for a long time and she was very good, she also knew where to leave a parcel if no one was home and always had time for a quick chat.

I seem to be joining the DPD party today- received a text that "Mick" will be here with my delivery exactly between 15:12 and 16:12. We will see.... Got "carded" by Yodel yesterday- according to their tracking. But no card and nobody came on site. That was it for me, so giving DPD a go- the local Office Supplies shop acts as a drop-off point.
I remember at least 3-4 years ago at a transport/logistics meeting that timed deliveries were seen as the USP of any delivery service- the customers wanted it. So all of the carriers have invested heavily in the back end systems and software to offer it. Its actually not too difficult, but educating the drivers to stick to the schedule was always difficult- especially as Richard finds the actual delivery driver knows all the customers, shortcuts and dodges to actually deliver the parcels. We found with a good bunch of drivers nobody wants to bring parcels back to the depot- and we never got paid for failures.
The software our client used also gave the van reg as well as the drivers name- we ended up supplying slightly different regs to the actuals as we got an avalanche of dodgy damage claims from customers who had all our details and swore our van/driver had hit their car, their customers car, anybodys car- just because we had been there that day.....
