We talked about the problems we face getting peeps all together. How about baby steps first and all us Yorkshire area lot meet up for a day and have a ride/natter? We easily got to Sherburn today and that must be doable for a few others? Sherburn is easy for me, only an hour and half away.

We're probably nowhere near the state of the Fizzy lads as regards organisation and commitment. We struggle to get more that 1 or 2 SD's in the same place at any time. It's a shame really- as it is a really good idea to have a backup in the support van. I thought about bringing an extra bike to meets before and letting someone who was bikeless for any reason get the chance to join in the ride-out. I've also suggested we as a group have good spare CDI's, generators, rectifiers, etc. we could send out to members to aid trouble-shooting. Lukewarm reception I recall. We could probably assemble a decent bike from good S/H parts we have TBH.... Can't the duff stuff be repaired? I would be such a collector..as most just chuck this stuff in the bin when they find it faulty.. I'm currently working on older stuff and trying to convince my mate to get a coil winder.. making looms etc at the minute as most 1930's stuff did not have 12v lights...working my way to the superdreams as I can't start them untill I have generated the space lol

Do you mean parts like CDI's, generators and the such? Yes anything can be repaired if enough time, money and skill is thrown at it.
But first it's the diagnostics that defeat a lot of people, especially if not technically minded. Even in industry swapping in known good components is a quick and cost effective way of finding the problem. In fact I worked for many years in production line maintenance where even if a part swapped in did not fix the problem, you did not then take it back off- you just moved on to the next likely failure point. The down time cost more than any part.
So we keep hearing of people replacing plugs, coils, CDI's, etc. and then its really the generator. And vice versa. So the swapping in good tested parts is better in my view. And then after you know what bit is duff? Currently still quicker and cheaper to source a good S/H replacement from a range of bikes that numbered tens of thouands- but this will change no doubt as the sources dry up.....

Jumping in here about meets and attendance........
For me - If I attend a meet, it will be ON a bike not with the bike in the back of a van. I am a motorcyclist, not a van driver.
I will ride bloody miles to attend a good meet...but there has to be a good 'ride out' to go with it!! We had a cracking time in North Wales last year - ok, cold..but the riding through some incredible scenery was bloody fantastic!!!
I would LOVE to ride to attend ALL our meets, but at the moment my arse belongs to my boss and as he is paying me handsomely, I have to oblige!!!!
We will have a cracking meet and ride-out in South Wales this September. We will RIDE to the digs, drink beer until we fall over and then RIDE the next day - not just from point A to point B..........but to C, D, E, F and all the way through too!!!!! The route is coming together and is a cracker for SD's.
We WILL get organised with meets, but we have to understand the demographic of our membership. Many of the members work shifts and weekends. I am willing to bet that quite a few also have to watch the family budget. I am not so sure that many of the fizzy members are short of a bob or two - lets face it, fizzies are damned expensive to buy in ANY condition.
Cheggy - I like your initiative with the Regional Meet Organisers......but it shouldn't just be down to them. I don't have the time to act as one myself, but I wont let it stop me organising a meet or ride-out in the future.
And I promise - a trip over to La Belle France is still on the cards....
