Hi all,
I'm the owner of the bike for sale on gumtree that some of you choose to slate on 10 June. I'm also a new member of this forum, and yes the master cylinder and seat cover are Dave silver replacements. Some of the original bolts have been replaced with stainless and copper grease, not as a cheat, but as common sense alternative. It's a bit perplexing to hear such harsh criticisms because an HONEST person has tried to rebuild and keep an iconic bike on the road.
I'm not a con artist that expects you magpies to come flocking to buy my bike, but just someone trying to build his first bike to the best of his ability in a shed at the bottom of the garden.
I'm trying very hard not to throw my teddies out of the cot and call the sowing circle that slated me, a shower off stuck up, know all's, that rather than email someone and advise them of their mistakes, would prefer to sit in the house and bitch and tar all sellers with the same brush.
The exhaust is an 80's 2 into 1 and an original exhaust for your info, can be bought; down pipes and cans at Dave silver and link pipe in Germany. at just over £300.
You may think my bike is expensive, however if any of you added up the hours that you or I have put into our restorations you would all think our bikes are cheap!
I'm not flogging you with a whip to buy my bike or chasing you with a big stick, I'm just advertising a bike that I worked hard on and asking what I think these rare bikes should be making when they come up for sale, giving the buyer a good bike and rewarding the owner for their hard work.
I'm more than happy to leave this forum if you think I'm a crook and you are uncomfortable with me taking the opportunity to answer the criticisms that my bike and I took.
The book is a big book, but it has just one cover, never judge that book by the cover until you've read the book!

I was wondering if I should buy Andy's after market clock decals or order a new set of clocks from Honda so I don't stray from the original spec of the factory SD or SD forum purists?
I wouldn't want to put anything on my bike that wasn't original! I'm being facetious now.

Ahh ok, I've found the offending thread We constantly read ads for "fully restored" bikes and they never end up fully restored. In reality, your bike is no different. To restore something is to make it original, how it left the factory. The offending thread has merely pointed this error out, also it credits you with doing a good job. Your bike is better than most we see on eBay. But, imagine if the buyer knew nothing about superdreams and paid top dollar thinking your bike was a fully restored item only to find later that it's not. Imagine the disappointment and possible repercussion. ] Once you read more of our critiques and get to know us you may view it as less offensive.

Mark, you know this site is never gonna be a purist site mate and I'm glad it's not. I personally love seeing the perfect bikes but also love the imagination that goes into the custom builds. But what makes this site perfect for me is the people, we have such a wide range of personalities. Theres nowhere else on the web like here. This is home.

The book is a big book, but it has just one cover, never judge that book by the cover until you've read the book! I remember the thread and these were my exact words on the bike: " Lovely looker but there is more than just the exhaust that is not original. Needs to cut the bull. Master cylinder and seat cover to name just two." You joined a site that caters for people who want their bikes 100% correct and some that do not give a monkey's nuts......either way, it does not mean you or your bike has been vilified - it just means that facts have been spoken - no more no less..... If this upsets you OR ANYONE ELSE then this is not the place for you - had you have been a member at the time then the words would have been different - we are diplomatic......we have many members here with non standard bikes and the purists amongst us are not out to upset them!!! So see things for what they were please instead of taking umbrage. People have a right to know what is right and what is wrong - free speech makes this site great......those who get upset by it simply (and occasionally) choose to leave.

P.S - I certainly don't think you are a crook - far from it. Rather, more someone who clearly overreacts..
You have a nice bike which is probably worth the money to the right individual - as I always said........it was perhaps the fact that your advert was a little wrongly worded - end of the day, see it as a bunch of enthusiasts trying to help you - believe me, if people saw that ad and read your words, they would expect the earth and more from your bike - buyers can be a*seholes!!!!!
You have done nothing wrong rather than being a little naive with the wording, but there is NO SUGGESTION that you were ever out to deceive anyone.

And I maintain my opening comment when I first saw your bike - lovely looker. You have done a good job. The paintwork and decals look astounding for starters:

Hi it's a shame that you did not join this great forum prior to your rebuild I think you have built a great bike & you should be proud a lot of us on here have done the very same that you have, I brought a few superdreams & made them a lot better in the garden shed my bikes are not totally as Honda made them as I too have used silvers & non Honda parts as my wallet is very thin (I'm married anyway my point is I've been made to feel welcome here & I can see why some fully restore or just tidy up, even chop or rat everyone is made welcome :)in my case I wanted to make my bike look as good as possible on a budget & im very happy in what I achieved & this forum helped me In doing that if I ever came to sell my bike (very unlikely) I would advertise it as it is a tidy Superdream & not used the words "restored" as a lot of buyers would expect it to be rebuilt with the correct parts (Honda) and not only Honda parts but correct for the model of bike there are a lot of variations of the SD and some really knowledgeable guys on here who know every nut & bolt. Just my thoughts Rich

A bike offered for sale publicly with questionable description around its "restoration from the ground up" got critiqued on a private members only forum. Then you join said private forum and blast your new friends with a bollocking for upsetting you, by pointing out in aforesaid private forum quite correct originality issues with the bike. I'm trying to understand what your problem now is TBH....
It's quite a decent bike to be fair, I note on the current Gumtree ad the claims and description have been toned down a bit. Have you also dropped the price? This is an enthusiasts forum and we cater for all tastes. If the bike was refurbished that way because you knew about the available options but chose to do it your way- every respect to you to do your own thing. Or if you had financial contraints even more respect to get such a result. It was just- in the then private discussion we were having before you showed up on here- if you did not then know the details that differed from originality- maybe you would have done it differently. Or not- its your bike....
Welcome to the forum by the way, although the manner of your entrance has annoyed me somehow- but its a friendly bunch and they are already helping you in other threads I see. Hopefully you have not judged our book by your cover......
