As some of you will have seen I bought a CB250 to be the basis of my project, now a slight problem I have is it has no V5 or Reg, I sent the V62 off to the DVLA thinking that it would come back all filled in and the reg on, but no, I then got put in touch with a bloke that can do HPI checks from the frame number and that would give me the reg but no, all negative no info held.
I rang Honda UK and although they were helpful I got nowhere on the phone she gave me the details of what I need to do to request information, it could take six weeks if they have to request info from Japan.
My question is there must be some info about the bike somewhere but where, the engine and frame numbers match, where else can I fine out about the bike?
Anyone offer any ideas.

I have the same problem with my chopped SD I emailed the local DVLA (Northern Ireland) which has since moved to Swansea and this was there reply :
Thank you for your email.
You have to put your request in writing and make a cheque or postal order payable to DVA. (Fee is £2.50) You should give the chassis number, make/model of vehicle, engine number, colour etc., as much detail as you can.

Ah the ever helpful DVLA, you'd think if anyone would know it would be them wouldn't you, I did hear that if the vehicle hasn't been taxed since 1982 they don't have the records, how true this is I do not know.

If it was taxed after 1982 then it WILL be on the computer and you will be able to find the reg via the frame number on HPI.
I had this very problem on a rusty old blue CB250N I got from Portsmouth back in 2008. It had no plate on it and the rain had destroyed the displayed tax disc from 2002.
I went to a friendly local car dealer with HPI access (who MOT'd my bikes at the time as well) and we put the frame number into HPI......at first it would not display anything as a dash was missed and a zero was input as letter 'O'.........but after around five attempts, up it came with all the details and the golden reg number 'UOR 725T'......
I would persevere with HPI before you give up and try the frame and engine number in all possible combinations. You really have to make sure the data is input exactly as it is on their system.

Can you not befriend a local dealer? I mean like a back street one - you know the type?
They have HPI access and pay a subscription.

The plot thickens, sent off to Mr Honda and got a letter back yesterday confirming the frame number at CB250N-2201371 and the engine number at CB250NE-2201371, they have also confirmed it was made on the 5th November 1980 in japan, well great but I still don't have a reg number, there must be a way of finding out what it was?

I posted a comment but when i read it back to myself it made no sense what so ever, i did have a thought tho of just buying a frame with a reg and V5 and transferring all the bits over, engine forks etc, that way its not a problem, I'll use the one i have now as the mock up, get everything right and then do it on the correct frame.

Acquiring a frame with V5 and plate is not a bad option if you are struggling- they tend to be left over from the Ebay strippers as not worth selling though.
Where are you based? I have a couple of good frames with the right pedigree.....
