Dunno, still feeling guilty about not going on the 400N last year, especially after I'd been to the Lake District on it a few months earlier 'cos the Hunter was due it's service. On the other hand, the Hunter does 100mpg - double the 400N. Wonder what the Triumph will do.............. Life is to short for guilt

Looks good Ian , enjoy , I think if I hadn't have bought the Hunter I would have test ridden a Triumph 400 by now but have managed to keep away so far .

Well done Ian! My plan was to see which one I liked best, keep that & sell the other on, but I had exactly the same plan with the 650 Continental & GT650s and kept them both until weight became a problem and they went to make room for these two. We'll see what happens this time...

Be interested to see what you think , I suspect the Triumph will do all the Hunter does plus some . With the price reductions on the Interceptor I did consider testing one but in reality my 350 goes as fast as I need 90% of the time and it reduces the chances of another "garage crash" , I seem to do most of my bike damage that way ...... !

I bought my Interceptor new in 2021 - with the volume of very low mileage Interceptors on the market some under a year old I would now buy a as they say “pre owned”

Both my Interceptor & 650GT were 'pre-owned'. Chris, the original owner of my Interceptor, sold it for health reasons. I got rid of both of them for the same reason. Could be the small capacity, light weight Triumph 400 & RE 350s also appeal to older riders & there'll be a few low miles pre-owned examples coming up for sale soon - just hope mine don't go that way!

When I came back to biking I was fancying a Triumph but they were all too big for someone who had'nt ridden for 23 years which is why I bought the 250 superdream if these 400's had been available then I think I would have got one ,the downside to that is I would never have met you lot and that would have been a shame .

I have never had an issue with the weight of a bike until the Harley was bought...but its not so much the weight, its the way the weight is on the bike....If it had a reverse gear it would be half the battle and probably no moaning about it, but it doesn't, so I have.
I keep saying its going, then I ride it (once I have dragged it out) and I love it, the torque is addictive, even two up.
Then I see how much space it takes up in the shed and the struggle in getting it out.
But biking isn't always easy and I will just need to man up.
Now where did I put my hair straighteners!
Gee.

There are some good reviews on the 400. Have you managed to put some miles on it and get a good feel for how it rides yet Ian?

I was out on the Speed 400 today, we met up with Brian on his Meteor 350 in Peel I'm up to 180 miles now, so still running it in, but I can tell the performance is much better than my Hunter 350, as you'd expect with double the hp. Once it's run in, I reckon it'll be as quick as my Interceptor 650 was. It's a nice smooth ride & vey comfy for me, with no weight on my arthritic arms, but I can get my feet down flat on the Hunter where I'm on the balls of my feet on the Triumph, like I was on the Interceptor. But it's lighter than the 650, so easier to paddle about, I'll do a Speed 400 v Hunter 350 comparison when I've cracked the running in.

Ian - is there any room on that mono shock to slightly lower the height of the bike especially as you generally run one up on your bikes

Pete Dave and I went to Blades in s.o.a, they had demo bikes outside including the street an scrambler. If your on the balls of your feet on the street like I was too, the scrambler is taller I was on tip toes. I’m sure bp will remark upon my height 😂. I’m glad your pleased with it Ian it is a smart looking bike 👍. Hope to see you and Gill later this year.

This was CTB on the 400 - Yep his legs were the right size This is me on the 400 and the Scrabler version, just sitting on them the 400 felt small, the Scrambler felt the right size - must test ride them
Fundamentally the frame is the same, I think the difference is purely 17” to 19” wheel upgrade

Yep, I think it's just the larger wheels on the Scrambler. At least it stopped me being undecided between the Scrambler & the Street . Gill was disappointed that the Street 400 was too high for her, she thought she might get a blue one & me a red one. On paper, the Speed 400 & Hunter have the same 790mm seat height, but I think the side panels on the Triumph stick out a bit more so there's less of your leg left to reach the ground. As to lowering the rear shock, that looks tricky - it's looks like it's bolted straight onto the swing arm at one end and the frame at the other, and it looks an expensive job to replace it with a shorter one, not that anyone seems to make them yet.
