Your looking at 40 year plus parts secondhand are the same best is to send everything to rex speedshop they will tell you what is needed and the cost but in the end you will have a system that is good for 40 year and more

looks like the low speed source coil is cabbaged, for the sake of £115 for the full rewind you might as well get the whole thing done for peace of mind. as Mark's said

Now that I have finally managed to remove my stator, I am in a position to either send it to Rex for no doubt a full rewind although not keen to pay £300 or try and source a replacement. I think I managed to damage it (thanks Bojer!) getting it out as black plastic bits were falling off it. I have found another rewinding service for £125 plus any repairs necessary - see link www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204345017781 I have been looking in ebay and there are a couple of used stators which may need rewinding therefore not keen. I have come across a new supposedly compatible one in China for about £106 and I was wondering whether anyone has gone down this route and if so, do they work? I have tried to copy the link a few times but it just won't work but the item number is 185237567179 if anyone is interested in having a look.

I’m thinking I may give this guy a try. It’s his video I posted above. Looks like it’s £109 for repair on his website. He’s on eBay as well. www.bbbikeshop.co.uk/

Thanks for the warning Buster as that was what I was looking at and it did seem rather cheap. I suppose there's always CMS for £460 or £800+ including the flywheel, maybe even get free postage for that! I don't think so.

I sent my stator, CDI and coil to Rex's with the reading I got so they knew what it was. They said it failed and needed a rewind ar 300 quid plus recommended the high speed pick be replaced at another 65 quid. On the plus side the testing was FOC and they were very helpful and sent it back quickly. I bought a used one from 'living the dream' on ebay and it is working OK. £105 seems a good price and would have gone for that if I had known as 2nd hand cost me £75! I might be tempted to send my spare one to them to get done at that price.

"I think I managed to damage it (thanks Bojer!) getting it out as black plastic bits were falling off it. " What's that mean ?! Hi Bojer. What I meant was thanks for the warning when you said "I would be v wary of locking up the flywheel against the generator windings like that" as it came true although I had already damaged it by then. Also, after your prophetic comment, I was doing it a different way. Paul
