Hopefully not enough damage to make repair tricky . Good luck .

On Saturday, I saw 2 stators for sale on ebay for £35 untested which I promptly bought as there are not many around. Both look in worse condition than my own but what matters is whether they work or not. I will attempt to test them as per a couple of Youtube videos to see if they are any good. I did try to test my own and got some strange readings so either I was doing it wrong or it is kapput as I strongly suspect.
One good thing from all this is that I really like the power impact driver I bought and it makes getting struck screws out very easy. Have not tried it yet on bolts for which there is an attachment.

I’ve no idea. Is this going to be my next headache. Can you explain a little. 🍻

Can you explain a little. 🍻 fingers crossed for no headache, a spark on its own is positive but it doesnt mean that much, the stator controls the spark differently at different revs, the horse shoe looking bit is the part that controls the advance and that somehow allows it to then run on the high speed coil. best bet is take it out, warm it through and then give it the beans, if it revs nice and cleanly through 5500 rpm then you should be in business. as I said fingers crossed

Stator I fitted had all the right multimeter readings so here’s hoping. Next step is to try and get it running, I’ll be well pleased if that happens and I’ll take it from there.

As previously reported, I bought 2 stators off ebay and duly tested them. Unfortunately, both had issues on some of the readings so I think I'll be sending them back. I tested my own again and this time all the readings seemed ok within the right tolerances but who really knows with these things.
I contacted Rex's again and they advised that stator rewinds start from £200 + Vat depending on what is required. To test a CDI is £25 plus Vat and they can also test the coil but they didn't say how much. They told me to send them all off and they would phone me with a quote before doing any work which I think I will do although I am aware that BB Bikeshop are far cheaper. I am determined to get the bike running this summer although not at any cost.
I was at Sammy Millers today and he had a lovely 400 Superdream with 4500 miles on the clock in pristine condition.

I feel your frustration, ebay can be a bit of a lottery. The stator I bought was paired with a wiring loom which I also wanted, so my thinking was, well I’ll have an untampered loom and if the stators no good I’ll send it to BBikeshop. Both items seem ok and it was a seller I’ve had a few things from and he’s always been very good. I’ve bought quite a few things now and there’s been times I’ve wondered is it too much? But I’ve just been getting something every other week so it doesn’t seem like so much, bike is running now but nowhere near assembled. I think I have most things I need now (there will be something else 🤪) so I would’ve taken the hit on the stator just to get over the line. The forum has been a Godsend, hang in there.

I have bought a replacement CDI from Rex but it has a plate rather than 2 holes as with an original. I have done a search to see how to fit it but without success. Has anyone bought one and know how to attach it. There were 2 cable ties but this seems rather basic. Any help would be appreciated. Otherwise I will wait until Monday and get in touch with them.

I can't say that I'm very impressed having to use cable ties to secure the CDI to the mounting plate, all seems very "Heath Robinson". Also, it is not possible to use the 2 hangers which were attached to the holding bolts to hang the throttle cables on. Can't say that I'm particularly happy. Anyone else bought one from Rex? Paul

I've got one on my 400N. I felt a bit like you when I fitted it, surely they could have fabricated the metal case so that it would bolt on to the original's mountings? I did manage to fit a cable hanger though. I fitted the CDI over 6 years ago, so I can't remember how I got the hanger to fit, I might have just had to bend it a bit, or maybe I fitted a different one. Having said that, I've had no trouble with it over the years & I do think it performs a bit better than the original.

I suppose they can't copy the Honda CDI's due to copyright/ licensing laws so they came up with this solution although not very helpful. Talking to John Oldfield in his Southampton shop recently he said that Honda try to control him but he won't cooperate and they hate it. His shop might be very untidy but he can put his hands on anything very quickly. Not sure how much longer he will keep going as he is 80 now and says he is busier than ever. He even supplies stuff to CMS!

Well that will be a shame, I've bought quite a few SD bits from John over the years, he's a great source for bits you can't find anywhere else.
