Afternoon all, I've just stumbled into the world of Superdream ownership kind of by mistake. I'd been shopping for a cheap 125/250 as the base for a project when this fell into my lap. It was nearby and the the nice chap who's owned it for the last 4 years was happy to negotiate a very reasonable price so I couldn't resist. My problem now is deciding what to do with her! It's been stored for the last 14 or so years and the last owner had just recommissioned the bike and fitted new cables, a new front tyre and replacement clocks apparently. It passed its MoT last week but is running poorly at low revs and reluctant to start and he didn't fancy getting into cleaning the carbs. I've just had a quick read up about fueling and it seems its best to keep it stock so any pointers to good posts about CB250N carb cleaning and correct set up would be appreciated. Other than that its very well preserved for the year. I'm thinking it would be a shame to use it as project bike - but I'm no expert on these bikes. If anybody would like to comment on what's original and what's wrong for the year/model I'd be grateful. Its a 1980 W plate. Apart from that, I'm looking forward to getting the fueling sorted and getting the old girl out on the road to see what I've been missing all these years!!

..."If anybody would like to comment on what's original and what's wrong for the year/model I'd be grateful. Its a 1980 W plate". Has, a kickstart? What range is the frame / Engine number in...? 2000020 ~ 2020270 is the CB400N and CB250N or 2100005 ~ 2124015 is the CB400NA and CB250NA Reflector position and year, suggests it could be a NA, could then comment on the paint and decals... - List item 1, Chrome Front fender/Mudguard
More photo's?
Looks in quite standard configuration though. Welcome!

hi welcome along. that front mudguard looks to me like a cb250rs though I'd agree with brit pete, it looks pretty good to me. I'd have a look at the pilot jets in the carbs, give them a good clean out and see how it runs then. theres an excellent carb guide on here by wazzbo but you need 20 posts to view it.

Hi Buster, I agree, it looks well on the bike. I've read that the original mudguard had a built in fork brace, would the RS mudguard have that built in as well or might I have an issue there? I've seen a reference to Wazzbo's guide but wasn't able to find it - I guess my lack of posts is the answer! I'll get posting then. Cheers!

not a fork brace as such, just a support piece to stop the fairly flimsy plastic mudguard cracking, should look something like this

I think that is a Pirelli PHANTOM back tyre, my favourite tyre, can't get that size any more last time I looked.... Example CB250NA in custom metallic silver (if you could pretend the back wheel is silver (with a Pirelli phantom on it ), The model identifier section will have a pic of the blue one... Your one has a pattern master brake cylinder or later Honda variant fitted, Na's had the 4 screw cap type. generally pretty standard configuration apart from the paint and decals. muddy and mcylder...The do "look a like" pattern shocks, similar to the standard FVQs

So its had paint at some point in the past which was done just a little different from factory paint schemes. Thanks for the info and the reference doc - very useful.

Hi Paul, welcome along. That's a nice looking SD you've got, not much I'd be in a rush to change. The pilot jets are a common pain on the 250 & take a bit of cleaning, but once you get them sorted you'll be fine. My 250NB (some differences to the NA, including paint scheme) had the same front muddy for years, I've just got round to changing it for a replica chrome job. I don't think there's much difference in the gauge of steel used on the muddy brackets

Welcome to the for Paul.
The carbs can be a pain to get clean, the air passages are so narrow, ideally they want sticking in an ultrasonic cleaner for the best results and even that can take two or three goes if they have been stood for a few years, but usually give little trouble once sorted.
