Welcome to the for Paul. The carbs can be a pain to get clean, the air passages are so narrow, ideally they want sticking in an ultrasonic cleaner for the best results and even that can take two or three goes if they have been stood for a few years, but usually give little trouble once sorted. Cheers, just had a look through your carb cleaning guide, a really excellent bit of work, thanks. Can I ask a couple of questions regarding ultrasonic cleaning. What liquid are you using in them, is it just water or a special solvent? Also, what size tank would you recommend if I decided to buy one? This 2 liter job on amazon looks big enough for a carb or similar.

Hi Paul, welcome along. That's a nice looking SD you've got, not much I'd be in a rush to change.The pilot jets are a common pain on the 250 & take a bit of cleaning, but once you get them sorted you'll be fine. My 250NB (some differences to the NA, including paint scheme) had the same front muddy for years, I've just got round to changing it for a replica chrome job. I don't think there's much difference in the gauge of steel used on the muddy brackets They used to put two sets of reflectors on the slow bikes
