the code beginning with s is a year code for petrol engines and the c is for diesel engines starting at SA for cars in the 30's upto SL which is the latest most are obsolete now bar SL,SJ,SM and SN some of the ones for older stuff is still used I think so for example you wouldn't put an SG oil in any thing built after 93 and SF for 88 I know this because I have been checking what I can put in my Capri without f**&ing it up and to be honest my head was battered sorting it out so I have gone for one with an SL code which is 2004 and older the ACEA numbers are to do with extended drain intervals low and high viscosity and only introduced in 96 right im ready for a sleep now and no doubt some of you are Just woken up
