Can't go wrong with any 10w/40 semi synthetic. It's what is recommended for them. Makes I have used in the past: Silkolene Castrol Motul Halfords (own branded) Valvoline Using this out here in the 400 Hawk and 450 Nighthawk just because it was what they had in the shop that met the same requirements:

I'm a bit confused now. I use 10/40 semi, no particular make, but none of them have a 3rd letter. I'm currently using Morris, which is API SN/CF, ACEA A3/B4 & MB 229.3 whatever that lot means. It's also got codes for VW & Renault! My last lot was Daytona which was just API SE/CC & the one before that Rock Oil API SL/CG-4 - different to the Morris API - but it's also ACEA A3/B4 which is the same as the Morris! Oh, and the Motol 20/50 mineral I'm using in the recently rebuilt 125 & 250 engines is MA2 which is apparently "backward compatible with previous API categories" WTF!

This has certainly confused me as well

the code beginning with s is a year code for petrol engines and the c is for diesel engines starting at SA for cars in the 30's upto SL which is the latest most are obsolete now bar SL,SJ,SM and SN some of the ones for older stuff is still used I think so for example you wouldn't put an SG oil in any thing built after 93 and SF for 88 I know this because I have been checking what I can put in my Capri without f**&ing it up and to be honest my head was battered sorting it out so I have gone for one with an SL code which is 2004 and older the ACEA numbers are to do with extended drain intervals low and high viscosity and only introduced in 96 right im ready for a sleep now and no doubt some of you are
