Another installment tonight or leave it until another day? I think the latter for now - too much text for one day and an image is needed at this juncture I think. During my investigations, this picture became a (slight) factor. Who are the two on the bike, then?

Okay, here goes then, H.
It took me a few seconds to comprehend what was going on right in front of me. Fire, flames, heat, smoke….and it was all progressing so fast. There was a piece of cardboard underneath the bike that was on fire as well. I vividly recall flames ‘licking’ around all four header pipes visible through the lower fairings and remember just thinking how the hell? Suddenly after realising this was actually happening for real I sprang into action shouting ‘shit shit shit’ ‘f*ck f*ck f*ck’ as I went. The flames started to spread to an adjoining piece of cardboard underneath my Superdream. I quickly stamped that out before I grabbed hold of the burning CBR by the handlebars. The bike was facing forwards in the garage and the double door was fully open, but as I looked down I noticed the left lower fairing started to catch the flames and droop as well as the side stand switch wiring. There was a garden table in the garage which made manoeuvring the burning bike a bit trickier. I recall wheeling it forward and not out of the garage at first choosing to put the bike back on its centre stand as I figured I needed to ‘blow’ the flames out. I then got down on my knees and huffed and puffed at the flames. Some started to go out but then then lit up again. I knew I had to get this bike out of the garage and I had to get it out fast.

I want to get to the subsequent investigation of what went wrong.....so will wrap this bit of the saga up quickly . I ran around the graveled driveway with the bike like a cat on hot slates, just not knowing what to do - back was aching, shoulders were aching but I didn't care....I just wanted to try and save the bike.......and of course avoid any damage to my family, me or the house... turns out there was actually no one home to help me on this occasion anyway which was sod's law. First decision I took when out of the garage was to get it on the centre stand again but right outside the front door???......NOT a good move....I then decided to get her over to the far side of the front garden and as I did this, I could see a healthy orange glow directly under the fuel tank as well as other cables / wiring catching. The smell of burning plastic and acrid black smoke was strong. It was at this stage I pegged it around to the side of the house and turned the outside tap on which feeds a Hoselock system on a hose - reeled up and attached to the external wall of the house. I yanked at the hose and pulled it over to the bike. As I pulled the trigger on the hose gun the actual hose became detached from the gun.......arrrggghhhhh. I got it re-attached within a few seconds and literally 'pummeled' water under the tank and on every other sign of smoke or fire - spraying it everywhere I could get it. After five minutes of doing this the flames seemed to be totally out. And luckily and unluckily for me (I guess)......they were. 7

Perhaps we should all put a powder fire extinguisher for the garage on out Xmas lists
Not really enjoyed reading this Thread if I'm honest but at least the bike lives to be ridden another day

To be honest I haven’t enjoyed reliving the experience and deliberated sharing it anyway.
I actually want to forget about it after the bike is fully repaired. Because of this, I am considering pulling the thread......if I do, I appreciate everyone’s understanding and I can always discuss it with those who’d like to know more in private.

Before you do pull it (perhaps) can I say I find it a salutary lesson in what can go wrong even when we think we have control over what we are doing. I have three bikes in my integral garage and assume all is well with them in a fire risk sense - fuel off, fuses in place, wiring intact etc etc. and yet my oldest bike has magneto ignition, a modern dry battery and, now I think of it, no fuse (they didn't back in the day). So your account means I will be having another think about what I must do to know a flare up is improbable if not entirely impossible.
And of course, you did well to save the house, garage, bike and yourself in the circumstances - had the tank gone up, well, it doesn't bear thinking about.
