I was reading the tread about the CM engine and looking at Grahams bike noticed the carrier where the rear rails have been removed to fit it On my 250 the rear grab rails remain in place bbcode image so:- 1) how many types of carriers were there 2) Who made them 3) What did the Honda one look like

Hi Pete. Not sure how many different types there are but I got this one because by undoing the knob on each side, it hinges up from the top rear out of the way . This enables you to take the seat off. Only complaint I have about it is that any bungee straps used to hold things on don't stay where there put (or is it just me)

Mine had 2 knobs on it but I swapped them for 8mm bolts as I thought it looked neater (carry a 13mm spanner in my jacket now)

I used to have a carrier on my 250na back in 1980. Memory may be playing tricks on me but I think it was made by Rickman. I recall it also did away with the side rails. Never had any access issues with seat removal. I did also stick a Rickman full fairing on, then took it off a week later as it was horrible. Stuck a handlebar screen on instead until the summer came along.

I've seen quite a few SD racks, but no two seem to be the same. The swing-up rack on my 250NB needs the side rails removed, but the similar style rack that was on my 400N didn't.

The rack you kindly gave me Ian needed the rails removed & if you wanted access to under the seat you needed a spanner to undo bolt each side & it hinged out of the way, really handy & will definitely be fitting it again when we finally arrange a proper meet.

That one was very similar to the one on my 250 iirc, but with a different arrangement for the indicator mounting. I got a couple of plastic knobs for the 250, but really, you still need a spanner to get them quite tight so they don't come loose & fall off. Trouble then is, the spanners are under the seat and to lift the seat you need a spanner.............

There was this type too ,not hinged but high enough to remove the seat with a little jiggling .

Mine on the 400 is the hinge type ,that needs the side rails removing to fit it.

This is mine, hinged, replaces grab rails, but different to Dave's above. I think Rich's was a bit different, and so is Irene's - it retains the grab rails I've had 3 fixed type that fit the earlier N/NA seats, and each of those was different too. I wonder how many different designs there were

My one (in the picture above lol) was the very last one supplied new from David Silver Spares in 2002, my other half has got one like Terry's but with the pillion rails kept in place, that was fitted when the bike was new, no idea what manufacturers either of them were made by... There seem to be quite a lot of different ones around!

Sorry, my one was actually bought in 2001, it cost £35 and it was the last one they had in stock. I have still got the receipt, doesn't say which manufacturer supplied it.
