Could we discuss these please?
Need some help. Anyone ever had them out of the airbox and then put them back? Maybe Harold?

I've had mine out. Swapped the 250NB rubbers into the 400NA when I temporarily fitted the 250 engine in it, then swapped them all back when the jobs were completed. Bolstered with this confidence, I also took them out my CB500 for no other reason than to clean them! In all cases, once cleaned up & with all traces of sealant removed, I soaked them in hot water to soften them up, dried them, then refitted them with no sealant or glue & I've had no running problems with them since.

Graham and Ian thanks a lot....so yes, they are off a 400 indeed, Graham. These shown above (as luck would have it) came free with carbs the other month from Germany and are in good nick - just dirty. I have never removed these from an air box as they are bonded in.......therefore, can anyone recommend a sealant or glue for when I refit theses ? Or not needed? These are the originals on my 400NA - as you can see, they are in an appalling state - worse I've ever seen:

I used nothing, but Harold sealed his - can't remember what he used, but I'm sure he'll be along to advise...

Okay great - so you had no ill effects without sealant, Ian?
I'm going to clean these up now and get all the old sealant off - then spray them with something to feed them.

I didn't use any sealant either , just make sure they are properly seated in the grooves ( no kinks).. and ensure you don't dislodge them when refitting the carbs.

Did you fit them from the front?
Possibly impossible the other way around (through the airbox) unless you are a contortionist.

I use durex, no problems fitting in box, could do with sealent to tighten things up, box is cracked, loose and worn out, air leaks are from behind the box!

FB - You might want to maybe smear a thin layer of rubber solution glue..something like the stuff used for fitting patches to bicycle inner tubes....just to hold the buggers in place when you fit the carbs.
The glue wont attack or damage anything and we all know it will work with the rubber.
