I used nothing, but Harold sealed his - can't remember what he used, but I'm sure he'll be along to advise... I didn't take the rubbers out it was the top of the airbox I removed the bit that the lid fits into if you know what I mean, I just used a silicon sealant when putting it back on, I bought it in Maplins. But the sealer round those rubbers look very similar to that which I found when I removed the top of the box a brown colour which was quite hard, (not rubbery) and came of quite easily.

Yes - quite hard but if you run it under hottish water it kind of gives and goes a bit stringy if you yank at it......def brown in colour.
So silicon maybe an option as well? I'm sure I have some black silicon in the garage.
Cheers all.

Sounds like the same stuff they use on the top as well Nick so I reckon silicone would do the same job.

My 450 ones aren't bonded in. I replaced a damaged one with a pair off a spare air box. Never bothered to seal them.

I wonder why they sealed them from new?
Possibly so the airboxes between 250 and 400 would be different thus they'd sell more complete assemblies (when the rubbers got damaged / perished).
I'm pretty sure they are a separate part to the airbox on my Bandit but I'd need to check on that.

In fact, no scratch that as there are more differences in the airbox itself.

Job now done - thanks for all the help. When I pulled off the RHS rubber I couldn't help but notice quite a bit of corrosion to the frame on the RHS that was more visible with the rubber removed.........eeek. I was tempted to grab a flat blade and have a poke around but resisted for now. One day I will tear this bike apart and do the frame etc completely (when I have more time from the studies).....maybe next year or when I retire at 80. When I first rode this once almost mint bike out of Acton in 1997, who'd a thought I'd have been ripping out its cracked airbox rubbers 18 years later and admiring its corroded frame?.....funny old game. Anyway, clips now installed - carbs will go on once I get the replacement inlets which are en route from Japan.

for sealer foe "split rubbers" (that sounds like an emergency ) try and get some of the black windscreen sealer, "Sikafix" is one of the trade names, the more serious camping car shops sell it for roof sealling, good stuff on carb rubbers, its polyurathane based which is better than silicone which goes gooey with petrol or petrol fumes, i use it for 2 stroke crancases and never had a problem with it,
