A bit of help and advice appreciated.
After unsuccessfully trying to repair the leak on my 1978 CB400N's petrol tap I've given up and am now trying to but a new one.
David Silver are out of stock at the moment so I ordered an after market part from someone else.
When it arrived it was apparent that it was too large for the tank outlet thread despite being advertised as suitable for any bike 1978 -1985.
The thread on the one I ordered was 16mm.
Does anyone know the correct thread size and pitch for this model of bike?
Now the weather has taken a turn for the better I'm desperate to MOT and ride the bike after a 12 month restoration. It will be the first time this particular bike has been on the road since June 1981!

Hi Charlie, welcome. I've been down this road - they're not all the same. Can't remember the sizes, but the N is different to NA onwards. I ended up buying a 400N to go with the incorrect tap I got I got the later type off ebay

Don't worry about it Nick. The 2nd tap I got fitted my NA & NB tanks. I can't remember if the 1st was bigger or smaller. Are they all the same?

Yes mate....all the 250/400 Superdream tanks had the (essentially) the same tap.....but can understand the confusion put out - especially when aftermarket parts were put into the equations - nearly been caught out myself.
But can I ask, what lead you to believe that the tap assembly was different between N and NA?

I got one from wemoto for my 250nb & it didn't fit, so I used my 400na tap. I got a new Hi-Level tap of eBay for my NA & that fitted fine. I can't remember how I came up with the N theory, but I'll try it next week when I get home. Don't suppose wemoto will take it back some 18 months later...... Must admit, it doesn't make sense that the N should be different

N and NA tanks were the same bar liverys....so that speaks volumes.

I ordered one from wemoto and it was too small for my 400na tank, and they didn't have the larger one I needed. I got one from the good ole usa that fitted. He said that Honda changed the size of them around mid 80, so some had the smaller thread and some the larger.

Weird...
I have had 78, 79, 81, 82 bikes- the same part fits all in my experience.

Its leaking from the tap body, which is riveted together so it doesn't look as if its the sort of thing that's readily repairable.

I think there was a member a while ago who had some repair washers for the taps. would mean drilling out the rivets, replacing rubber washer and I think he used two small nuts and bolts instead of the rivets

Charlie, the tap on my na is also 16mm.
I have a new hi level one I got from wemoto, supposedly to fit my model year but it is only 14 mm. If that is your size ,pm me your address and I'll post it to you, it no use to me you are welcome to it if it fits:)

Yes it is probably the rubber o ring gasket that has gone which is not a separate Honda part.
Andy64 on here can supply them.

P,S - I just slipped mine in - no removing of rivets - fiddly - but had it done in five mins.
I wonder if we are talking about the same thing.......any chance of a picture, Charlie?
