I have a problem with my ears which causes bad spells of dizzyness and can put me in bed for days at a time, its called Labrynthitis. It started few years ago after a heavy bout of Flu and ended up a viral infection in my inner ears which has caused permanent damage. I have to be careful not to get up to quickly or move my head to quickly because it makes me dizzy, but this is something I've learnt to deal with. The problem is if I get a cold or throat infection as this can affect my ears. I ended up off work for the whole of last week because of the spin off from a cold. Now here's the worrying part, the doctor has said that if this problem keeps re-occuring its his duty to inform the DVLA as its not safe for me to drive being prone to dizzy spells. Just hoping that the cold bug spell has now passed and don't end up back at the quacks. So as you can imagine I'm "Getting Worried". Sorry for putting this on here but felt I needed to have a bloody moan !!

Would flu jabs help in any way? by cutting down on the number of causes?

All the best Suki!!!!
Me personally, I avoid the quack surgery at all costs. Been living in Redditch for over a year and not registered yet.
If you can avoid paying the witchdoctor a visit when you suffer a 'spell', then what he doesnt know he cannot tell....
When I used to fly, we always advocated having 2 docs - one you saw if you wanted a sick note etc., the other was your aviation ME... HIM you didnt tell anything to otherwise he could revoke your pilots licence....

I suffer from that so I can sympathise. It's important not to worry about it, as stressing out over things can trigger it. I've had the full-on vertigo business twice, both times stress related. The first time I didn't have a clue what was happening and honestly thought I was on the way out. Shit me and the Mrs right up that did.
Apart from no hearing in me left lug and suffering from man-flu more than most, it hasn't affected me at all really. I can still ride me bikes and I still go to work (no big deal 'til I tell you I'm an aerial rigger. Lol) If you feel the dizziness coming on, just have a quiet day or two and relax. You can get some pills to help with the vertigo if it happens, I'd recommend keeping some on stock just in case.
I've put up with this for 20 years and it's not been a problem. You'll keep your license and you'll be fine.

I had never heard of that complaint but it's interesting. I remember living in an apartment years ago that had a 6 foot long bath but no shower. I got into the habit of filling the bath up near the top , then sliding down into it until just my ears and chin was above water level and relaxing in it until the water started to cool, then I scrubbed and got out. I started getting colds in my ears and sinus a lot but I don't remember ever getting dizzy. When I moved home and had to shower instead of bathing then the problem dissaperard within a week and never came back and that was years ago. Also I would say that if you can cut sugar and sugary food out of you diet and eat loads of fruit in the morning on an empty stomach then you won't get much colds or flues. Also you will go a long way in life if you can keep away from the 3 D's as much as possible, (Drink, Drugs and Doctors). There s a lot of good in the old saying An apple a day keeps the doctor a way. Above all do what I say not what I do!

My wife and stepson have this condition too but take the tablets prescribed and have not had any problems ie DVLA to my knowledge,I'd see a different Doctor in the practice maybe even change surgeries. My licence is restricted and I have to re apply, have medical every 3 years and it is a worry, hope all gets sorted for you and you feel better soon.
