I have noticed in recent years that a lot of health related websites, especially those relating to government or drug manufacturs tend to state very confidently that colds and flue are not caused by the cold but are instead caused by infection of the cold virus or flue virus spread from person to person. Although this may be technically true I think it is also very misleading in real terms. It is as if they are saying you can take a bath, half dry your hair and go for a walk in the frost and you will be fine so long as you don't bump into anyone who is carrying the cold or flue virus. In my experience of life this is Bulls**t. The way I see it is that during certain weather conditions (cold and damp especially), then the cold or flue virus starts to threive and spread. As people sneeze and cough it is everywhere, handles of doors, buss rails, shopping trollies, money and coins etc, it is unavoidable to come in contact with it. Those people who are well nourished, not over stressed and dressed warm stand a fair chance of not falling prey to the virus getting a hold on them, but the rest of us are fecked, and especially if we are badly dressed for the cold. If one sleeps in a damp bed during the flue season then one is truly f**ked.
