Can the sparkplug hole be helicoiled institu ? Or is it head removal job?
Out on the superdream today for the first time since getting the bike after taking a few bits off and replacing to make the bike look a bit better , I had done about 20 miles when all of a sudden there was a loud pop and then really loud engine noise , at first i thought the exhaust had come away from the barrel but that wasnt the case , the spark plug and blown out of the head . It looks as though the last owner has stripped the threads and it was hanging in there on the cast couple of threads Tried puttting the plug back in but its not threading in properly as the threads are stripped
So back to the original question , can it be helicoiled insitu or do i have to remove the head?
Cheers

i think the head would have to be removed because of swarf, it will need drilling and re tapping
to accept the new screwed bush.

Wonder how the OP got on 1. Yes Roger. Honda thoughtfully provided holes through the frame to extract the inner bolts. If your going to the trouble of removing the head, I'd use time serts to repair the plug threads; much superior to a helicoil. I don't know if it's a diy job though, I got my local engineering shop to do it.

Thanks Ian good advise. I will remove the head and give it to a local repairer. I see the time sert inserts are cheapish but the tools cost more than a the repair. Not worth buying for what is hopefully a one of job
