No tax no mot, can only be good news I'll be a poor old retired geezer. When my 250 is 40,in 2019,every penny saved helps.

For most of us on the forum who look after bikes that's fine
There will be some who abuse it
My Triumph and BSA are already exempt and I am conscious of keeping them road worthy
Some won't do this but hopefully the few
My concern would be in 30 years when modern electronic bikes come into it

Will they last that long Pete?
There probably won't be many old geezers that are able to restore them and get them running with all the high Tec stuff they have fitted these days,😊

We can restore these old bikes because we were brought up playing with them. The kids of today are born with an electronic device in their hands. All they will have to do is buy an old Dell laptop, some Automotive software and some new batteries. The wrinklies of tomorrow will be techies, not petrolheads....

But they will still need to know how to use a spanner and valve spring compressors and most won't want dirty hands i remember after school getting the go carts out. Oily rags cans of petrols get them going and driving them round the school yard - can't do that now health and safety

Great idea, I should imagine some will abuse it but they are the ones who drive or ride illegally anyway, most of us would want our bikes safe if we are riding them on today's roads

I reckon most people that are likely to have 40 year old vehicles have pride in their up keep of them so this is good news 😀 , I think ....

The down side for me will be the craic ,I'm at the MOT place for getting on an hour and a half just chatting with Stuart (my tester ) and his other customers just chatting about bikes in general mostly old stuff though cos they're Stuarts speciality that side of it I'll miss a lot .

Hi
Someone on another forum has just posted this, not sure if true or with brexit it still applies.
This may not apply to MOTORCYCLES until JAN 2022
I have just phoned someone I know at the Federation of Historic Vehicle Clubs (FHVC) and he confirms that the original EU directive did not included motor cycles till Jan 2022. So looks like a cock up has been made in this latest statement.
The Government small print in original document says: (Page 10 paragraph 1.6)
"Although motorcycles and 3-wheeled vehicles do not come into the scope of the Directive until 1 January 2022 we are including these categories of vehicles in this consultation. (Any changes affecting these vehicles will not come into force until 1 January 2022.)"
