I don't see it as a competition between old and new, the truth is it is down to personal taste, beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that. I can see the good in pretty much any bike and I think the CBR600 is a modern classic, I've owned 3 of them and to me the 2001 CBR600F has to be one of the best all round motorcycles ever made. But the truth is modern motorcycles are an engineering wonder, the technology in them would have been unimagineable a few years ago but will old guys like us be able to pull them apart and rebuild them in a shed in 40 years, probably not without a suite of computers to help. The beauty of the Superdream and bikes of that era were they were and are simple but effective motorcycles which done the job they were designed to do very well, now bikes are very much more complicated but they still do the job they were designed to do very well and if you can't find a modern motorcycle you like you aren't looking hard enough or perhaps your rose tinted glasses are obstructing your view a little. Let the debate begin

I just like most bikes & won't slate any off two wheels better than 4 The difference between my fireblade & my Superdream is massive but they both give me something I don't want to lose --FREEDOM--

Agree it's a debate about personal taste - of course - and we are all different.
Don't you miss something with old bikes as well though - following one and smelling it. Seems odd now that you don't smell any fumes from a modern bike. It's great for our lungs and our kids and the planet etc........but it's still odd, nonetheless.

Never went the two stroke way except for a Puch Maxi - but agree, the smell of two stroke is even more hedonistic than the smell of four stroke.
What I love the most about all these older bikes is returning to the garage after a ride - say around an hour afterwards. This is when all the smells come together after they have heated then cooled in an enclosed environment. Polished alloy, chrome, oil, rubber, vinyl to name just a few. Beautiful.
