Welcome to the forum. Whereabouts in Sheffield? I was born in Darnall and worked at Manor Top fire station, so I know all the posh bits

Thanks for the warm welcome. I live in ecclesfield however grew up on parson cross. So I know the posh parts aswell lol. I think I'll start a build thread on here. The bike I bought has been off the road since 2009 and is in fairly good condition. When I picked it up it looks to be complete with just the carbs removed for whatever reason.
First job is to get it running which I haven't succeeded yet

I already stripped and cleaned the carbs. They wernt bad at all, looks like they had been drained when removed. I also had to sort a few electrical gremlins. The ignition switch is now shorted out as it has a broken wire. I have spark but don't think it's fantastic. I couldn't get it to start. It would however do the odd misfire but only when one of the plugs was removed from the other cylinder. For testing spark. I think the next thing is to ensure there is compression

Hi Tom,
I am a fairly new member here too. I live in Retford and sometimes work in our office in Sheffield by the old airport. lots of good help and advice on here, get your post count up over 20 and then you can view all the good stuff.
Good luck with the bike. Carb issues seem to be the common thread with SD's. Mine were flooding when I got my 250, but I have my bike running now. Needs a good setting up though still. Just in the process of rebuilding the front calliper, which was in a pretty sad state. They are worth a good refurb too as they were not brilliant brakes when factory fresh.

I just can't get it to fire, even with carb issues I'd expect it to fire with easy start, even if just for a couple seconds

I also had a very weak spark on mine, which I forgot about, new plugs cured that. Worth a go for five or six quid....
