It was the Velocette 500 engine that was used in the production bike,a strange choice of engine when you consider what bikes were being made available then ie four and three cylinder superbikes

See where you are coming from with the Royal Enfield engine,Clymer working with Italjet put an Enfield engine in the Triumph engined Griffin and badged a few as Indians but he bought a job lot of Velocette engines when they went tits up and went into production with the Indian Velo.Interestingly Clymer didn't realy own the Indian name.I googled this info but being a Velo fan knew about the so called last Velo.
