Thought it was 8% ? And wasn't there still another "add" on tax for cars and bikes? Thats the Tax on Tax - Special Car Tax , you pay VAT on the original price and the special Car Tax I'm sure Vat started at 5% and has gone up in 2 1/2 % increments - but I may be wrong

Purchase tax preceded VAT at 25% !!! When we entered the EEC VAT was introduced at 10%. ( yes I used Google lol. ) I recall some thinks we're tax free,wine and cider from memory but beer had vat added and food was vat free so getting beer classed as a food was attempted but sadly failed,it was cheaper to step outside the pub to eat crisps because vat wasn't added to "take always" there were lots of silliness around lol.

i bought a new bonnie in 1969 i still have it My neighbors brother bought a new Bonne in 1969 ( the best year model to buy ) he Thruxtonised it and raced it,he kept it until July when he succumbed to cancer but he donated the bike to the Craven collection museum in York for displaying soon.Lucky man you are Brian owning one for so long.

my cousin had a 650ss norton that he used to race at aintree but it would not live with the bonnie
